Can I use this with out a pc and will is save data like year to date rainfall?

The display will save some data then you have to download it to a computer. Or you can get the Internet bridge which uploads to a free Acurite account and link it to Weather Underground as a personal weather station. That is what I did, no computer required other than setting up your account and you can view the data from a smartphone app.

Does this station need to be mounted on a pole, or can it be mounted right onto a flat surface?

The bracket for the 5 in 1 sensor has the short pole type top for the sensor to mount to and the base of the bracket can mount on top or on the side of a post. I screwed mine down to the top of my pasture fence post. Hope this helps.

Do i have to set the time manually or can it get its atomic time from fort collins, i do not see this model on acurite's website which concerns me.

I manually set mine. I did not see anywhere in the instructions where it says otherwise or if it can get the Atomic time. The only sensor it has on it is the wireless sensor to work with the outdoor portion of the kit so I'm pretty sure you can only manually adjust it. It was smart enough to adjust for daylight savings a couple weeks ago, but that's the only automatic part of the clock portion that I know of.

will the phone app work for a droid 2 from verizon?

I'm using a iPhone, so I don't know about any Android apps. What I can tell you, to get your weather data on your phone, the weather station has to be connected to the internet and then reporting to a weather service and that's where you're going to get your data. Now it has free Windows software you can download from them to use, and you would plug it into your computer by USB. I thought the software sucked and was limited. Then I used software called V.I.S for Windows that costs money to use but was much better. Both these programs support sending your weather data to weather underground. V.I.S will also allow you to send to some other places, but can also doo a fast update to weather underground at every 5 seconds, everyone else is much longer. Weather Underground has a nice is app and acc really nice iPad app, which you can easily view your weather data.I would assume they have a Android app also. I wanted to offload the software from my pc, so there's software called Meteobridge that you can flash onto a small router. I got the dlink 505 for like $20 here at Amazon with prime. It's very small. I can plug the acurite into it by USB, and I have it plugged into my Ethernet network, but you can also use the WiFi that it has to connect into your main router. The minor issue I'd you need a mini USB hub to plug in between because something with USB 1 the acurite has and the router not supporting that. So the hub will do the needed conversion otherwise the router won't see the acurite. Not a big deal. The Flash software is around $75 with a 2 week free trial. It's lifetime support for that device. So free updates, it also reports to even more locations. It's basically setup and forget. I hadn't touched mine in weeks. Best of all, it only needs around 1 to 2 watts of power for the router. Much better then my power hungry Windows pc at around 200 watts.
