Trans Wizard Harriet Porber And The Bad Boy Parasaurolophus: An Adult Romance Novel

The first novel I've finished reading all year
Let me start by saying I first fell in love with this book because of the title, which is perfect. It really encapsulates the meaning of Pride. Apart from that, it's an "adult romance novel" according to its author, which appears to be an amalgam of genre romance, modern rom-com, and softcore. On top of that, it's a superficial Harry Potter parody, mostly stealing a few names and making light of certain fanfic predilections. For instance, you could read it as a broad parody of Harry slash Snape, or maybe an exploration of the sexual tension that could, in theory, exist between two such characters as adults. However, the main thrust of the book if metafiction. Not only are there fourth wall breaking moments, and not only are some elements obvious parody, but the Snabe character's focus is on "metamagic," which is using D&D bard magic as a way to communicate to the reader he is a fictional character in a novel. The book makes a number of good points about self-actualization and relationships, and while hardly groundbreaking, I want to say this is a book with a kind heart. The book is rough and imperfect in some aspects, but it's written with the confidence of someone not afraid to say what they have to say. I really enjoyed it. I'm a busy writer and parent and I don't have a lot of time to read lately. This was actually the first book I've finished reading cover to cover in months. If this book sounds like something you would like, it probably is. It's certainly one of the most original things I've read in a while, and I enjoyed spending time in their weird genre-bound world.

Heartfelt and Hilarious
This is so heartfelt, clever, sexy, and sweet! The world-building, plot structure, and characters are dazzling and fun. This novella is made of pure joy.

Hilarious and genuinely very good
Chuck Tingle is such a great author. His works are silly and hilarious, but genuine. You can tell he writes for fun, and purely because it makes him happy. These books are completely unironic and I LOVE them for that. This story ruled and got some pretty great laughs out of me! I do wish there were more explicit moments, but the plot was great so I found myself not caring as much lmao

Unexpectedly beautiful
I laughed. I cried. Wtf, I really did, too. It was great. Heartwarming, thoughtful and irreverent.

Delightful Parody, but No Joke (this is not a gag gift, this is a real book)
Loved this book and was happy to read a longer form Tingler after many short pieces in the collections. This is not a send up of Hogwarts, it's NOT full of HP references, but has some very well placed jabs at a certain terf-y author. More than that it's a takedown of toxic romance tropes, and relies on real compassion for its characters. Also a great challenge to the idea that drama and pain are the best sources of artistic creation. (Reminded me of Hannah Gadsby's rant about Van Gogh in Nannette.) That being said, it has a face paced plot, solid characters, and the Tingle you paid for. Oh, and both main characters are happily trans and there are no trans tragedies or manufactured plot points, it's just who they are. Just all around fun and affirming. Don't buy this as joke, buy it because you like yourself and you deserve good things.

Good for what it’s worth
This is obviously a parody book. And if you go into this expecting something serious, you will be disappointed. However, if you’re just looking for a quick good time, you’ll enjoy this. Some grammatical errors, but they are pretty sparse and far between. Heartwarming at some points, and even a bit inspiring.Don’t take this book seriously, and you’ll have the best time with it.

If you're debating it, just get it
I don't normally read romance novels, but this is one of the greatest things I've ever read. The premise is absurd. There's typos and errors and I don't care. Fantastic commentary on HP and romance tropes. After reading it, I could really go for some chocolate milk.

My first visit to the tingleverse...
And certainly far from the last. I jumped on this purchase immediately when a friend showed me "Chuck Tingle's response to J. K. Rowling's transphobia" on principle alone. I wanted to support an author who supported queer and trans folx! I've seen covers of Tingle books before, and frankly they're hilarious, and I didn't know much else when I promptly installed the Kindle App on my phone and began reading.I'm not going to lie, this is the first book I read start to finish since God knows when. Not that I don't like to read, but have severe depression and frequently find myself abandoning things I started. This book was not hard to commit to. It is short and easy to consume and most of all fun to consume. I needed that. I appreciate Tingle's straight forward and on the nose meta commentary and how nonchalantly it's written in, and whether it was his intention or not, I found this book hilarious. Sweetly touching at points, too. I cried a few times, unabashedly, and I love that Tingle makes a point of giving those fourth wall breaking shout outs to his readers. This book made me feel better about myself than any other book I've read simply because of that paradigm shift, and it didn't go unnoticed.I was honestly surprised at how infrequent the sex scenes were and maybe that made them that much more fun! My only complaint is that there's a fair amount of small errors sprinkled throughout that range from negligible to slightly confusing, but I'm still happy to give this a 5 star because in the end the book communicated exactly what it set out to. Love.10/10, 0 regrets would purchase and read again.
