Do-It-Yourself Herbal Medicine: Home-Crafted Remedies for Health and Beauty Review: Can't put it down! - I would consider myself an experimenting beginner herbalist. That being said, I have been making herbal infusions and decoctions for several weeks now, and have even made an herbal oil infusion and salve. I have a few staples that I stick to after having read a book by a renowned herbalist. While that book was great for me to get started, it was nowhere near as comprehensive as Do-It-Yourself Herbal Medicine. There are over 30 herbs mentioned in great detail in this book, with easy to prepare remedies. I love how this book is broken up into sections by ailments and I LOVE that there is actually a mental health section! (I work in the mental health industry). It's so important to have this included as it's something that's often overlooked in many other herbal remedy references I've seen and I think many people could really benefit from herbal remedies for mental wellness! Pretty much any other ailment you can think of from acne to dandruff to varicose veins and then your usual cold, cough, fever, etc. are included. It really is super comprehensive. Aside from that there is two great indexes in the back. One goes by herbs for a quick reference, and the other goes by ailments. There's also a glossary as well as an introduction that includes tips on growing an indoor garden! I honestly have been engrossed in this book from the minute I received it and am so excited to try the different remedies. I've already tried several of the tea infusions and ordered several herbs that weren't in my beginner apothecary. I'm even going to be attempting my first tincture this weekend! I couldn't rave more about this wonderful book and it happened to come into my hands just as I was beginning to explore this wonderful world of natural healing. It has further affirmed by interest and I'm so excited to continue my journey with herbal remedies. I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review. Review: Will use this book daily. - I have been into herbal medicines and remedies for about 3 years now and I still consider my self a beginner! I have a herb garden and everything, but there is still so much that I can learn. This book certainly helps and will be a book that I will use everyday. It is sectioned out great and doesn't bore or get the reader overwhelmed. It is just crammed full of information and has a lot of great recipes for random uses. All of what I find interesting. Especially, the remedy for headaches or fevers. Not only is there one, but, there is 3 remedies. All of which, I have not tried. Not all the remedies have a selection, but it is great to have it. This book also tells you 5 must have herbs, that I found really useful and would be great for anyone that is just learning. It doesn't just cover strictly herbal medicines, but also has recipes for other things like pest control, like fleas to making a laundry detergent. To treating Poison Ivy. So there is much to choose from. If you are a beginner or a pro and in to herbal remedies, this book is for you. It is one that will not grow dust! I will certainly resort back to it daily. It is so helpful and loaded with information. I am just intrigued by this type of stuff and will never get bored with it and always learn something new. It covers so much. Would recommend. Heal Thyself!
I really enjoyed reading this book. I love to use fresh herbs in cooking and I like the idea of home-crafted remedies but I have never actually tried using essential oils to make a product that I could use. After reading this book, I feel very well-equipped to begin experimenting with herbal medicine. If you are as new to this as I am, you will learn as much as I did from the introduction. It explains the history of using plants as medicine as well as everything you need to know in order to purchase the best essential oils. Online resources are included for sourcing the best ingredients. There are at least a dozen categories of preparations you can make from poultices to balms, masks, and scrubs. But wait. Part Two is the best part of the book. It describes each of the Fabulous Five. These are the five herbs considered to be "super healers". You will learn why it's essential, an interesting history fact about it as well as how to grow it, details regarding its' medicinal and cosmetic use, and the application method. And then, the same information is given for the Thirty Worthy, herbs that you will come back to again and again. The third part of the book are recipes for treatments that are categorized according to a wide range of common ailments such as split ends, psoriasis, nervous tension, and constipation just to name a few. I will return to this book and over and over again as I begin to experiment with herbal medicine. I was given this book in exchange for my honest opinion and I give it 5 stars.

Natural Home Remedies
When I first got this book I was not sure it was something I would enjoy. After reading it I discovered that there were many things in here that I could use. Upon flipping through the book I first ran across a remedy for removing pet odors, this is what drove my desire to read more. This book would be great for someone who is just starting out using herbal remedies. The book has many recipes/remedies for all sorts of issues. The book also has three different indexes (oils, remedies, and problem) to make your search easier. There are so many remedies listed that I would be surprised if what you were looking for was not here. One of my favorite things is that each benefit/use as well as where to get the herb, or how to grow each herb is discussed. There are some really great pictures and illustrations in this book. Natural cures work for our ancestors, why not us? * I received this book for an honest and unbiased review
