Great Product! Our cat loves it
Great Product! Our cat loves it! It is my first pet and my first cat. She was a premature and abandoned by mother. We got her to vet, the birth cord was removed and then the fun started. Special formula and bottle fed. Her water from the start was from the "MULTI PURE SYSTEM" which is suburb and she was bottle fed that also. She had lots of health problems and it was touch and go for the first six to eight weeks. Because of her water consumption, we looked for something on the order of the Drinkwell 360. Not realizing it was so big and for multi pets, after we received it we had some doubt and of course she was so small. However, NO PROBLEM. She is even mesmerized by the water flow. The pump is extremely quiet, the double filtration is excellent. The ease of cleaning is simple. Esthetically, the stainless steel and black colour really make the unit stand out. Having the separate disconnect from the power supply is a plus. Having the five (5) different water flow attachments really gives you a big choice. We use the smallest one with the five (5) exits because of the cat size. This unit really would accommodate a wide range of pet size's. I would not want be be without this product. We have bulk ordered the filters and even ordered a spare motor/power supply, fully realizing everything at sometime or other breaks. Buying through Amazon is the way to go. Only other concern was that we use the Dental Care Solution in her water. I would think that the filtration may have some effect on it. However, because she gets her teeth brushed at least twice daily, we thought our concerns may be over looked. Immediately after getting her teeth brushed, she goes directly to her fountain. Over all this an Exemplary product. A Five (5) Star PLUS Rating and a really BIG, BIG THANK You! Update: 08May2015. Started using the "Forever Filter," 03Feb2015. Purchased the 100oz Acurel Extreme Carbon Pellets because it was the best price per oz. We now change the filter material weekly because it is so cost effective and really assures that the water is kept clean. We have now had our DrinkWell 360 for eight(8) months and it had perfomed just fine. Of course, it runs 24/7 and the unit is just as quiet as the day we received it. It is truly a wonderful product.

Great product
I'm very pleased with this purchase. My cats love it! They are under a year old and took to this very easily. I thought they would since one of them had a fascination with the bathtub faucet. It doesn't leak, but she'd bat at it until she could get a drip to come out. When I first set up the Drinkwell, she played in it for about 2 hours straight - she made such a mess in the kitchen, but it was so fun to watch, I let her get it out of her system. The other cat played in it too, but after about 20 minutes or so, she was over it. The bowl is large - about 12-13 inches in diameter, and I really like the fact that it's stainless steel even though some of the other parts are plastic. I found a nice padded mat at "BBB" to place underneath it - the mat fits the fountain along with two smaller food bowls. A mat is necessary because it eliminates the sound of the vibration of the pump. I'm not a huge fan of the clips that hold the conic piece in place, but they get the job done. The fountain cleans very easily - I usually do this about 2-3 times per week - it depends on how much they play in it, because their fur gets in it - LOL. I ended up purchasing some spare parts along with a brush kit to clean it with from the manufacturer's web site. The brushes are very helpful and make cleaning easier. I also purchased additional foam filters that go around the pump here on Amazon at a reasonable price. I do not use a filter in the top portion of the fountain - we already have filtered water, so I don't have a need to filter the water again. The only reason I purchase the spongy foam filter for around the pump is because it helps keep the hair out of the pump. Obviously I check the water level daily, and I usually throw a few ice cubes in when it's warm out, which they love. They almost always drink out of the part that drips from the top. The exception would be when I put ice cubes in - then they like to lick the ice cubes and will drink out of the bottom part, which is kind of narrow. I use the top that has three water flows - the faucet comes with different tops you can put on so that there are from 1-5 water flows. I thought three was enough, especially if they want to drink out of the bottom - otherwise water would drip on their heads, but I don't think they'd care too much. There is a part on the top that adjusts the water flow, so if you find that it makes too much noise from the dripping sound, then you can adjust the flow so that the water hits the cone part instead of splattering in the water. Also, if the water splashes out of the dish, it's because of a combination of having the water level too high and the flow too high (or you have cats like mine that like to play in the water!) Every time I clean the fountain, my cats act like they've been in the desert and they need a drink immediately - they don't like me to take it away. As soon as I put it down, they act like they did when it was brand new. The one cat likes to stand with her paws on the top of the fountain and she bats at it until the water is coming out again - so cute! So far all the parts have held up well, although I did buy some replacement parts in case something clunks out - they love the fountain so much, I just can't have it break down :-) I know my cats are drinking plenty of water with this fountain as evidenced by all the clumping pee balls they leave in the litterbox!

Good purchase, but I wouldn't buy it again
I've had this fountain for about 4 years now. It runs well. All of my pets, from senior dogs and cats to puppies and kittens and even a parrot have all enjoyed using this. The stainless steel is easy enough to clean. A steel wool scrub removes water deposits quite easily. It holds a lot of water and offers both a bowl as well as a flow of water to drink from. The exposed water can evaporate quickly, so it needs filling every other day or so. I have replaced the pump twice in the years I've had this fountain. My biggest complaint is how hard it is to clean water deposits from the plastic parts, especially the top piece that controls water flow. I haven't found an effective method beyond gouging deposits out with a knife tip. It's annoying and time-consuming and the black pieces never look clean. For a future fountain, I'd definitely want glass, ceramic, or stainless steel where the water flows. They are far easier to fully clean and maintain. I've gotten my money's worth out of this fountain. I wouldn't buy it again, but I don't regret purchasing it.

One of the Best animal water systems I've used to date!
Animals need water, and keeping them hydrated with fresh water is definitely better than leaving a dish of old stagnant water in the corner. I have male cats, and lack of hydration can lead to crystals in their urethra's - a potential kitty killer. While only my opinion - I would rather let my animals drink filtered water rather than stagnant water. Would you want to lap up a dead ant, or have to push through pollen that's accumulated on the surface of your watering bowel? My cat's may not be connoisseurs, but I'm sure they know the difference between dirty and clean. I love my cats and I've learned that a hydrated cat is a healthy one. For felines, it's a know fact that cats are opportunistic when it comes to enjoying liquid refreshment. Veterinarians recommend leaving a watering bowl in various locations since "Smuffy" will most likely drink from it if he passes by it. That said, here's my review. Pros: 1. Stainless. Stainless is easy to clean, and bacteria doesn't like it. I clean my Drinkwell manually, but it is dishwasher safe. 2. Easy to clean. Disassembly is quick and easy, and there are few nooks or crannies to work with - an issue I've had with other waterers. 3. Multiple water head patterns. You can choose between 2 to 5 waterfalls for your animals. I started with just 2, and now use 4. With 3 cats, more is better. It's not uncommon to observe 2 cats at a time using the drinkwell simultaneously. Using multiple streams also minimizes the water trickle sound if the stream is very powerful. 4. Pre pump filter blocks dead bugs fur, and helps prevent slime from building up into the pump. I clean and reuse this filter until it turns yellow. They aren't expensive, and you could replace them more often if you want. 5. Charcoal water filter. Drinkwell sells replacement activated carbon filters for your system. These are NOT cleanable nor would you want to. Activated carbon collects scum and impurities in the water and once it's done it's job, needs to be replaced. I use a 3rd party compatible cartridge and replace my activated carbon manually. I save money overall, and insure that my kitties have fresh filtered water at all times. (NOTE: if you notice a lack of water flow, it's almost always due to a clogged filter) 6. HUGE water reservoir ! Cats, dogs, ferrets... there is always plenty of water in this system. Not running low on water has numerous benefits - there is a higher percentage of clean water to dirty (which you are filtering), your pump has less risk of running dry (very important if you don't want to replace it sooner), there is plenty of water should you leave your cat's alone for a day or 2. 7. Decent pump motor life. Lets face it, the pumps on residential watering systems are not made by Cadillac. They are mass produced, contain no bearings, and run 24 hours / day. Heaven forbid they run dry for any period of time as you will certainly be replacing them sooner. I own 2 Drinkwells, and just recently replaced a pump after more than a year in service, and yes - I did run the motor dry a few times. 8. Manufacturer support. Spare parts are available from the manufacturer. Not just consumables but pumps and other items. This is a big plus if you want to keep your product. I purchased a replacement pump elsewhere for 1/2 the cost, but many of you may just want to use the manufacturer replacement instead of searching out a replacement as I did. (FYI - Drinkwell's pricing was reasonable) Cons: 1. It's big. With a footprint of almost 13 inches in diameter, some of you may not like it. 2. It needs power. You need to plug it in so an outlet is necessary. On an positive note, loss of power won't prevent your furry friends from grabbing a drink as the reservoir is open and accessible. 3. Noise level. Noise is minimal however using a head with 1 or 2 streams creates a waterfall that creates limited noise, where using 3 or more streams creates streams that do not create noise. Not a big deal but you need to decide - not me. In a nutshell, I recommend the Drinkwell 360 for indoor or outdoor use, and for a cleaner water source for your animals. I hope my review helps!

Great idea, terrible execution
I purchased this as a replacement fountain for my beloved original Drinkwell 360 fountain. While still difficult to clean, the original 360 fountain was the best of all the Drinkwell fountains I have owned, and I have owned many. I loved my fountain, but I bought this one specifically for one of my indoor cats that is having terrible cat acne issues. Pros: stainless steel, so good for cats prone to cat acne from plastic bowls. Some people will like the shiny metal. Still has the great features of the original such as a good pump, multiple number of spigots, and the parts fit together well. Cons: The shiny metal makes it difficult to see the water level in the bowl. The faint markings on the shiny metal make it difficult to judge how much water should be in the bowl at all. The new clips are difficult to lock down, and then difficult to remove for cleaning. No markings on the bottom to indicate where the pump should be placed. Hard to reach certain areas to clean, but better with bottle brushes (sold separately). Base is bigger than the other -- doesn't fit into my standard sized sink, so is difficult to clean. I've had this in use for a little over a week and just did the first cleaning. The stainless steel part seems to be working - my cat's underchin acne is clearing. However, the terrible cleaning experience leaves me wishing I had never purchased it. For starters, the basin is too wide to fit into a standard sized sink. It's larger than the original by enough to make it only fit by angling it, where the original fit perfectly at the bottom and stayed flat, making it a great basin to hold the parts as you were cleaning. The next thing I noticed was how difficult it was to get the clips off. In the original design, the cone just locked into place with built-in plastic grooves, which was a really easy way to get it to stay in place, even if you didn't lock it down all the way. With the clips, I had to get out a butter knife to pry the edges away from the rim - which means they will break off at some point. Cleaning was no easier than the other, but buying the bottle brushes they sell separately was certainly worthwhile. When putting it back together, I noticed that it was difficult to remember which direction the pump should go, as the instructions say to put the pump in relation to the rounded edges of the spot for the pump. Guess what, all the edges are rounded in the spot for the pump. Once the cone was in place, I realized I'd put it in backwards and the water wouldn't flow up the cone, so had to take it apart again. The clips were difficult to put back, not hooking as easily as I'd hoped. I appreciate the hole in the base of the cone where the cord goes. To help alleviate the mess I'd been making all week trying to see the water levels (since there is a minimum water level to maintain for the pump), I decided to use a red sharpie marker to mark the two lines (min and max) to see if that helps. It did help on the minimum level, but once you start adding more water, the reflection from the water on all that metal just makes it all shimmer, so you really can't tell if the water is too full or right at the line. You can't tell if it is a reflection lapping at the line or the real water line. Hopefully the marker lines won't disappear. Once water is in the bowl and the bowl is placed on the floor, all those lines disappear from the angle. I run my fountain without the carbon and debris filters, since my cats get RO water. It all runs fine without it. Debris from their food and from shedding is pretty much a guarantee that I'll clean it weekly, so I don't mind that part and is a great reminder when a week is up. All in all, I have loved my other fountains from Drinkwell, but I'll be rid of this one as soon as I humanly can. The design flaws definitely outweigh the part about having a stainless steel bowl area. I don't know how this one made it to market when it is such a let down compared to the original 360, and I certainly don't recommend this to anyone who will be cleaning it out on a weekly basis. You're much better off with the original plastic one. Now if they would just incorporate some of the better designs from the original one into this one, I'd be a happy camper.

Owners of rambunctious cats be warned!
This fountain would be 6/5 if not for the only flaw, which is the top half of the fountain is only held on by gravity and a tiny bit of suction. What this means is a rambunctious kitten (big or small) can knock the metal cone off of the pump assembly and leave the fountain fairly unusable until it's put back. Niles went as far as to remove the cone entirely this morning! To be clear, the normal pawing that cats do at their water will not affect this fountain. As a cat owner of almost 30 years, Niles is the most inquisitive, destructive, and I'm contractually obligated to say loving, cat I've ever met. So if you have a Niles, you might need to adapt to make this fountain work for you. The pros are all great otherwise. It is truly easy to clean! The pump and filter assembly come apart with minimal effort and in a way that all the crevices can be effectively reached. The pump is very quiet, and pretty consistent through the week. We have three cats, so we have to top off the water mid-week. We clean once a week, and the water doesn't get gross by the end. The cats all acclimated to it well, but it did take about a week to two weeks of it running before we saw them all use it. We have one skittish boy who was more hessitant, so we kept their other water out for the first week, and then moved the fountain to the spot where their old water bowl was for the second, and that seemed to work well. All in all, for a household with normal cats, and for people who are both particular about cleaning and appreciate efficiency, I would highly recommend!

So far so good!
My cat LOVES this thing! I bought this specifically for when we were on a trip out of town for a week because her water bowl ends up with a layer of fur floating in it and any food she accidentally flings into the bowl while eating. When we're home we sometimes have to dump out and refill her water two times per day, but our pet sitter was only coming to care for her once per day so I figured at least a fountain would constantly be running and filtering the water so she'd constantly have clean water. We set it up the night before our flight and she was very curious and intrigued by the water and light reflections, wanted to paw at it, and it did make her want to drink water but for a few days she would check out the water fountain and then go over to her regular water bowl to drink water from that instead. After a few days, we kept catching her on our pet cams drinking from it. She drank at least a couple of times per day with her regular water bowl, but would sometimes have long bouts where she would ignore it. She has consistently been drinking much more water from the fountain than she ever did with her normal bowl. I had been planning on disassembling and storing it while we were home, but with how much she loves it and how often she drinks from it, even though we're very much lacking when it comes to an adequate amount of power outlets and space in our kitchen, we're keeping the fountain as a permanent fixture, plugged in 24/7. We've only used it for two weeks exactly at this point, so can't speak to any issues with rust, but thus far there isn't any issue with the steel. The filters work great and keep the water clean for a long time. Our pet sitter dumped and replaced the water once while we were gone and we did the same after we got back, I finally disassembled and cleaned it today, so technically we went 2 weeks between cleanings by replacing the water a couple of times, but you are supposed to take it apart and clean it every 7 days. With the stainless steel, it's easy to see when it needs to be replaced and/or cleaned. Steel is the most sanitary material for food and water so I would never consider a plastic fountain anyway. I have several other products from PetSafe that are all good quality so I felt like their fountain would be a safe bet, and so far so good, I'm pleased with it and the quality. The only thing that would make it better is if I could somehow have it be battery powered and if the footprint was even smaller since we have an NYC apartment, but this is actually one of the smaller fountains available so it's not too big. She is pretty skittish when it comes to noises, but the fountain is not loud at all. The only thing we hear is the water trickling (which is good since that helps make her want to drink the water). We can't hear the motor at all, but we do have a constant low hum from our air purifier and fridge and usually traffic and subway noise, so maybe if you live in the middle of nowhere and nothing else in your house makes noise, you might hear it faintly, I wouldn't know.

Cheap quality, but the cats like it
The cats love it for the versatility of being able to drink from the top, basin or sides. So as far as ‘will my cats use it’ this has been the best shape hands down. Quality though p*ssed me off. This is the thinnest cheapest stainless steel you can get. Think, the thin stainless pet dishes you can pickup at a discount store. I could fold this thing in half with my bare hands if I wanted to. I’ve got $20 fountains that had thicker stainless steel than this. I’ve owned other fountains by the brand and they reuse a lot of parts. For example the rubber gasket that covers the hole the wire from the filter feeds out of the dish with. They didn’t bother to produce it in a smaller size (or the opening larger on the fountain itself) so it really does not sit in place well on the opening in this fountain. It’s fairly easy to clean and the cats love it so I’m going to keep using it, but I’m not happy about how cheaply made this is for a PetSafe product. This is truly discount store quality.
