I love to cook, however, I wasn't sure I could notice a big difference in all the different varieties of paprika you can buy. I bought this because of the other good reviews and then sat down and did a taste test comparing, regular paprika, smoked paprika, and this Hungarian Sweet Paprika. I won't list the brands. The Hungarian Sweet was by far the most flavorful. The regular paprika...well, I may never use it again, in comparison, it was boring. The smoked paprika was strong in the smoke flavor, good, but that clearly would be for very specific recipes. When I had cleansed my palate and tried the Hungarian Sweet, I was indeed impressed. The flavor was strong and savory (the name sweet is kind of a misnomer in that I really didn't taste sweetness, but maybe so in comparison to the smoked). I really like it. I will probably start using the Hungarian sweet paprika in all my recipes calling for paprika. I am a FAN!!!

I have used this brand of Paprika for years. Lately it has become difficult to find in my local stores. It’s a wonderful and authentic paprika. I use it for most of my Croatian and Hungarian recipes.

If you enjoy the earthy, soulful flavors of Hungarian Chicken Paprikash, Goulash, Stuffed cabbage, etc. you will appeciate the enhanced flavor this product provides versus the common grocery store spice brands. FWIW, while this product arrives fresh and bursting with flavor it is a preground spice so it will quicky lose its exceptional flavor over a few months. Treat your family to fine Hungarian classics once a week and you will use it up before it loses its essence.

Smoked Spanish paprika is fine for adding a smokey flavor to a dish, such as paella. Most paprika is used as a garnish on food or for coloring in food because if the paprika’s lack of flavor. However, Hungarian paprika is used because of it's wonderful flavor. There are hot (e’ros) and sweet (e’des) varieties of Hungarian paprika. Every well stocked Hungarian kitchen has an ample supply of both. The very best paprika, no matter whether hot or sweet, comes from Szeged, Hungary. Paprika is grown everywhere in Hungary. Many people grow, dry and grind their own peppers. When buying paprika, make sure it is imported from Szeged. Do not buy Szeged “style” paprika. It is not authentic.
