BK Precision 2831E True RMS Bench Digital Multimeter

I am very pleased with this unit. The layout of the controls is intuitive, or at least quite easy to master. The display is the perfect brightness and the selectors are quick to respond. It seems to read well within the specs it shipped with. No drift at any temperature I would subject it to. I did not test current under a real load. I did find the frequency to be spot on, and the Ohms checked out to 10M. The dB/m displays are a big bonus for me, and the AC+DC is needed for my radio work. The ability to measure both current and voltage, on the same meter, at the same time!, is the biggest upgrade to my bench. I gotta tell ya, the probes, my gosh, they have, what seems to be, the nicest set of probes I have seen come with a meter. Give it a shot, if you don't like it, you can return it. I'll make book you keep it.

I purchased my unit August 7, 2013... it's now 3 years later (almost to the day). After a change in circumstance the unit sat un-used almost immediately from purchase till now (used twice, and gently). Last week I powered the unit on to demo the unit to a family member, and first measurement (AC voltage, a wall socket) the unit popped and no longer functions. I checked the fuses (including the IEC fuse), and they were all fine. BK estimated the repair cost at about $200, and say they are unwilling to work with me. I understand the unit is outside warranty, and not wishing to take advantage of them, but I expected much better... expected a unit to last decades, like even the cheapest meters. They have lost a customer! This review is in no reflection of the seller, no issues on that end. I will be putting the repair estimate towards a worthwhile piece of equipment, won't chance this again!

I needed a very precise voltmeter. This is letting me see .1mV on a 2 Volt range. Well made. UPDATE: The meter woke up this morning DEAD. The display come on but locks up. This meter is about 2 years old and has been used for a total of 48 hours.

The build quality is just fantastic on this unit. I think the build quality exceeds a lot of other pieces of equipment that B&K makes. The RMS values match other equipment references.My major gripes with this unit is the chassis depth: it is too deep for many benches or shelves. It would be nice if it were about half the depth. My other group is the sampling speed. Even on high speed, doing things like conductivity checking is not instantaneous. The 1 second wait really annoys me.

Excellent purchase. We have all our equipment calibrated before use. This one came back tagged as "No calibration required." To date no problems have been reported. The BK 2831 model works as advertised.

I love this bench multimeter. The price is very good for the quality of this test equipment. Better than used.

Purchased this meter some time ago. It has become an essential part of the test bench.Excellent quality, good resolution and is always ready to be used.
