Imagine sitting across the dinner table from your loved one, desperately trying to communicate, only to be met with blank stares and frustrated sighs. This was the reality for my family until we discovered the SuperEar. For about ten years now, my 94-year-old mother has had difficulty hearing. It started out as a minor problem and morphed into something bigger. Until about two months ago, it had gotten so bad that my brother and I were unable to converse much with her at all. Traditional (and expensive) hearing aids didn’t seem to work. It was frustrating for my mother and for us. To communicate with her at all, we had to write notes or use an app that allowed us to correspond digitally. It wasn’t until she had a stay in Winthrop University Hospital, a division of NYU Langone, that we learned about the amazing SuperEar. One day, when I came to visit my mother at the hospital, I heard doctors talking to her. Amazingly, she was responding! I soon learned that they were using SuperEar, a personal sound amplifier. I quickly purchased one of these gadgets myself, and we haven’t looked back since. The SuperEar Personal Sound Amplifier is an affordable, user-friendly solution that dramatically improves communication for those with hearing difficulties. One reason why SuperEar is so amazing is that it is incredibly inexpensive. Unlike the $7,000 price tag associated with the previous useless hearing aids my mother attempted to use, the SuperEar costs only $65! If I hadn’t seen such an inexpensive piece of equipment work so well for her in the hospital, I never would have expected it would be so effective. Incredibly, however, it is, and you certainly cannot beat the low, low price. In addition to its affordability, another significant advantage is its ease of use. It comes with two very basic pieces that you just hook together. One piece is a pair of lightweight headphones. The other piece is a small plastic amplifier. You simply plug the headphones into the amplifier, turn it on, and speak into the amplifier. Even better, no charging is required! My mother is not tech savvy, so charging would be a chore for her. Instead, with the SuperEar, you simply pop in a AAA battery. You’re set for 30 hours of sound. So easy! A final reason why the SuperEar is the very best thing I have purchased in 2024 is because it is effective. Hearing aids just never seemed to work for her. She even tested out a new “high tech” hearing aid only to return it because it just didn’t allow her to hear much of anything at all. The SuperEar, however, is very different. In fact, like the description of it on Amazon says, SuperEar “is like reading glasses for your eyes.” It’s powerful, and my mother can now converse with us easily. We can speak at a normal level into the microphone amplifier, and she actually hears us ! She is so thrilled to be able to have a normal conversation again, and she is able to use it when speaking with doctors, storekeepers, and other family members too. My mother feels connected to us again, and that is invaluable. I have purchased many products in 2024, but the SuperEar truly stands out as the most useful and worthwhile investment. Its low price, user friendliness, and remarkable effectiveness make it an essential tool for anyone experiencing hearing difficulties. I highly recommend exploring the SuperEar for yourself or a loved one – it could transform communication and enhance the quality of life.

Great for seniors (for a couple reasons)
My brother is in a nursing home and has profound hearing loss. My voice is naturally loud and I can punch it up several decibels when I visit, so he has no trouble hearing me. But my wife has a teeny tiny voice, and whenever she says anything, I have to do the Garret Morris news for the hard of hearing bit. This works great. In addition to amplifying voice for him, it extraordinarily easy to use. One thumb wheel turns it on and adjusts the volume, much like a transistor radio 60 years ago. This is great, because as he's aging, his ability to remember and figure out how to work technical things is failing as well. As good as it works and gets the job done, I've got to say that it feels extremely cheap for something that costs this much. The battery cover is very tricky to put on, especially for ancient hands. I suspect he'll just give up and lose it at some point, but the battery stays pretty secure even without the cover. The headphones are *very* chintzy. I might find a better set at some point.

Head phone too large
Works pretty good but the head phone is not snug enough to to stay put on a small head. I have ordered a head phone pad for the top to see if it will help before I have to send it back. Update I was able to make the headset work by buying a pad in Amazon that zips on the top of the headset and it is staying in place now. I will be keeping these for mom now since they do work.

Great, portable option for someone who's hearing impaired!
My 90-year-old mom has had issues using typical hearing aids: They fall out of her ears and are uncomfortable. (And those are the ones she bought from that giant membership place we otherwise love.) So she basically doesn't hear much of anything anymore, which is super frustrating, often loud -- or just not getting the information across. My siblings and I have spent money on other options, including a hearing device that hung around her neck to pick up what's happening in a room. Well, that's sitting in its box, unused and (by her) hated. Recently, though, she ended up in the hospital for pneumonia. This followed a night in the ER, with me providing her usual "translation services" (i.e., yelling one-word simplifications of what the doctor said). Anyhoo, I finally left when she was admitted and taken to a room. When I returned the next morning, a nurse was WHISPERING to her through this little box -- with my mom wearing a Walkman-kinda thing and HEARING HER! For the next week, while she was in the hospital, she and I and the health care providers had no trouble communicating back and forth. Sure, a person has to stand close enough to speak into the box, but our mom could hear. This is amazing -- and she doesn't even mind using it! The hospital used exactly this model, and before she was released, I'd bought one for home. We've been using it -- as has her home-health providers -- and finally, finally she can hear and understand what's going on. The hospital's version had a clip on the back of the square box that could attach to her clothes. This one doesn't have that, so I suspect, they just glued one on. It was so useful, I'm picking up a clip and will superglue it to the back of this box. I highly recommend this. Our poor mom has had years of failing hearing and could never find a solution that worked for her. This one does, and she's already excited to take it with her to her upcoming appointments. My days as her translator are numbered.

Easy for senior citizens to work.
Worked great for grandma. She can now communicate well . Hearing aides were to hard for her to work with.

It functions, but.....
My 95 yr old mom is virtually deaf. She tried the really expensive in your ear hearing aids, hated them, refused to use them. Then tried an over the ear amplifier. While it worked, she did not like wearing it. So we got her headphones for the TV, and she loved it! I bought her this, hoping we could get her to wear it when she has visitors. I tested it out first. I noticed it was picking up and amplifying sounds that were irritating, so I stuffed some sponge into the microphone tube, put scotch tape over it, and that helped to eliminate the irritating higher end sounds, allowing voices to still come thru clearly. Then I noticed that every time you touched the little sound box, no matter how carefully, you heard very amplified irritating noise. So I put silicone all around the body. This reduced the amount of sound transference. It works. I use a large safety pin on her clothing and hang the box onto that (the clip is difficult to use on clothing) not great, but it works. I might buy another, larger set of headphones.

Great alternative to a hearing aid
So far i really like it. Not many options out there for this, but i needed an over ear hearing aid for my Nana to help her wuality of life. There were really only 2 options, this one and the $200 one. I gambled and bought this, so far it seems great. Only issue i see is the volume controls. They go from no volume to about half scroll, then a little ajustment blows out your eardrums and destroys a city block causing the evacuation of everyones bowels from the vibration.. Would definitely buy again though, thats nit a huge issue for me.

Easy to use and a great option for some people.
I purchased the SuperEar SE5000 for my elderly parent who needed a little extra help hearing conversations and TV audio. Overall, it’s a solid personal sound amplifier that does what it promises. The sound clarity is good for everyday environments, and the volume range is wide enough to adjust based on surroundings. Pros: Lightweight and comfortable to wear Easy to use with simple controls Noticeable improvement in hearing speech and TV Rechargeable battery lasts a decent amount of time Cons: Picks up background noise in crowded areas Not as discreet as some in-ear models Volume dial can be a bit sensitive This isn’t a replacement for a medical-grade hearing aid, but for the price and ease of use, it’s a great option for seniors who need a little extra hearing support. Would recommend for casual use at home or in quiet settings.
