The maximum thickness the machine can cut is 3mm. The minimum cut area for the machine is 5mm x 5mm for Direct cut mode and 1mm x 1mm in Scan to Cut mode.

Can it cut 2mm thickness medium chipboard? Chipboard being tougher and denser than balsawood.

The Brother SDX125EGY has not been tested with Chipboard, however, it can cut paper with a thickness of 0.1 to 1.0 mm, fabric of 0.25 to 1.0 mm, and felt or a foam sheet (urethane foam) of 3.0 mm can be cut. These thickness values are approximate guidelines.

What's the difference between sdx125e and sdx125egy?

There is no difference between the Brother SDX125E and SDX125EGY except the color variant of the Brother SDX125EGY.
