Allen Sports Premier Locking Tray Rack

90% as good as the big guys for 60% of the cost!
This thing is honestly fantastic. If you're wondering what you'll be missing due to the difference in price between this and a Kuat NV or Thule T2...well, I'll tell you.1. The Kuat NV is the best-looking bike rack around. This doesn't look as good. However, it's a bike rack, so...2. Integrated cable locks. This doesn’t have those. Each arm does lock down onto the front tire of each bike, and each of these locks are keyed the same as the hitch lock.So it’s really not a big deal (to me). If I’m in a high-theft area, I have a cable lock I can easily deploy for added security.3. The system which tilts the platform down for liftgate access doesn't go far enough. At least, it doesn't go far enough for my Sequoia (see the last photo I posted).Otherwise, this thing is every bit as good as the best racks from Kuat or Thule. And a 3-bike NV or T2 would cost several hundreds more.If you have a carbon frame, it’s important that you not use tray racks which grab your frame. These tire-grabbing tray racks are critical for carbon bike owners, but if the price tag on those other ones give you pause, just buy this one—you won’t regret it.

Nice rack but slightly overpriced
Rack is very well designed and includes innovative built-in locking features for both rack to hitch and bike to rack. A few downsides for me are as follows; the red straps that go around the front and rear wheels are stiff and much longer than necessary - even for my 29x2.6 wheels/tires. I haven't found a good way to keep the straps clear of the tray so that you can drop your bike in place. You almost need a third hand. Tucking them out of the way is tricky because of the size and stiffness of the material. Also, the rack does not tilt down enough to allow opening the rear lift gate on my Ford Escape. Overall, I'm still happy with this purchase considering that Thule is asking insane prices for a similar rack. Shame on you Thule! (and Yakima, Saris, etc)Edit: I figured out that the straps can be turned down and underneath, a full 180 degrees, and fed into the buckle from the bottom effectively keeping them out of the way when loading bike onto rack. I've transported my Specialized Fuse Comp 29, a relatively heavy hardtail MTN bike, with zero issues. Worth mentioning; no tools required to attach to hitch receiver and does not rattle when tightened down (by hand!), folds up when not in use, light weight, and good fit / finish. Would easily be a 5 star product if the priced dropped to one seventy five.

Update: not recommend
Update: had a chance to take it out for a spin over the weekend. The 1 inch or so square tubing is grossly under size. The bikes bounce around like ping pong balls. It's not a matter of if, but when it will break and to top it off they drill holes in the tube. Not recommend.First impressions:Pro:1. Looks good.2. Light weight.3. Works.4. Hitch mount is decent.Con:1. Folding pivot point is loose--- RATTLE.2. Hold down arms won't lock in down/folded position---RATTLE.3. Putting a lock in the hold down arms doesn't make a lick of sense to me.Overall an "OK" bike transport hitch.

Rusts, welds break!!!!
Like a previous review mentioned, this thing WILL rust. Be sure to take it off when not in use.Other than that, It was not long enough to clear the bumper of my 2018 Nissan Rogue so I had to buy an extender (not a big deal).I also think that the wheel straps should be exchangeable in case they break but I don't think they are...I did enjoy the locking mechanism which attaches to the the actual hitch. With the bikes properly sitting on the rack, the bikes are pretty secure.Gave it 3 stars because of the rust issue (rust is a big thing on cars!)Update 6-17-2021:Added picturesUpdate 6-20-2021:Took our bikes on our first road trip. About 2.5 hours. During our return, the weld point on the rear bike rack broke!!!! I've added pictures. Some one could have died if the bike fell off!

Solid construction & safe
It took a few hours for my husband and I to put this together; we wanted to make sure we read the directions a few times to understand the names of the parts referred to and any snafus. For the most part, directions were clear & diagrams helpful. Previous reviewers' comments were also very helpful re: the stiff red straps for the wheels and positioning the front wheel base in the correct direction. But, we came across 3 snafus of our own.First, we had trouble inserting the front wheel part into the frame- metal against metal. We found that by waxing (from a candle) the sides of the front wheel insert, it slid more easily into the frame. Our second problem had to do with the locking mechanism. It didn't seem to function as the directions indicated- clockwise, counter-clockwise, locking, etc. This was a frustration, but not a deal breaker. We installed & secured our 2 bikes as directed, putting the largest one on first. Neither my husband nor I are very strong, but it was fairly easy to install the bikes and they seemed secure after a short trial run around the block. Our third snafu was more of an issue for us. When we tried to remove the entire rack from the hitch, it would not budge. We followed insertion directions & didn't put the rack in too deeply beyond the silver button as described in the manual. But we had visions of having to live with the rack forever in place or pay to have it removed somehow. My husband spent some time searching for a video to help & was able to find one that better explained the locking mechanism & how to detach the rack from the hitch. We were finally able to get the rack off fairly easily, but it does take two people & some slight rocking. Hopefully, this process will get easier as we use the rack over time (fingers crossed). The rack is made from solid metal; the thick plastic straps are tricky, but secure the wheels well; the spur arms to secure bikes on the top work well, and we love the ability to move the rack up when bikes are not on it. We did add a few of our own bungee cords to keep things secure, but they really may not be needed. But we feel better safe than sorry. We have used it twice for short distances at speeds no higher than 45mph, but I suspect it will feel just as safe at higher speeds. The bikes seem safe and well-secured. There are no rattling noises from the rack or the bikes. We look forward to using this well-constructed rack for years to come & we can strongly recommend it... but read the directions, re-read the directions, watch the videos, read the directions again, and again, and take your time.
