Both the sides work well, each for their intended purpose. I was looking for a durable string cleaning cloth and one side serves the purpose. You cannot be too rough with the cloth against the strings or it will shred fibers. Even with gentle use, the density of the fibers allows it to clean really well. After a wash it was good as new, so the reusability is impressive for now. Compared to generic microfiber towels, the higher price is worth it for a specialized instrument cleaner. I’ve played guitar for over 50 years and perform regularly. I love this cloth for both cleaning the strings (black side) and the body and neck (plush side) on my guitars. I keep one in every guitar case. I don’t use them with a cleaning or polishing product, although you could. For that, I use Music Nomad’s Guitar Detailer with a separate microfiber cloth.
