Beautiful Tile
Very happy with this purchase. I have been wanting a mother of pearl backsplash for a long time however my only hesitation was how in the world was I going to cut it. I searched the internet and watched You tube videos trying to understand how others had done it. The tile is small and very thin. I tried the nippers and hand held glass cutters but with little success the edges were not clean and I could not seem to make straight cuts. I tried a wet saw pushing the tiles through using scrap wood to hold it down on either side of the blade and did have some success but it was hard to keep the last tile steady and I could only cut through the middle of the mesh tile sheet because I needed to hold it down on both sides. In the end I had tremendous success using a Dremel 4300 with a diamond blade bit that I found on Amazon. I was able to pencil mark the lines I wanted and then with a steady hand cut the tile with a lot of precision. Because the tile was so thin and I have zero experience installing or working with tile I ended up using "Simple Mat" from Home Depot to adhere the tile to the wall. It is like double sided sheets that you put on the wall then press the tiles into it to stick. I was worried I would not be able to readjust the tiles to go where I wanted them once I put them on the simple mat but I was actually able to place them and pull them off and adjust as needed. My only difficulty was the grouting. I think my struggles came from inexperience and not any fault of the tile. The tile is thin so you have to wait for a magical window when the grout is dry enough not to completely wipe out but not too dry to wipe away from the tile surface. The surface is not flat - it is natural tile so there are indents that can get tricky. I recommend you go slow. The color of the tile is primarily white but not stark, it has some natural hue to it and even some gray spots so seemed rather versatile. The price of these tiles with the beauty can not been beat! Trust me I really looked.

Just what I was looking for
Was looking for something timeless and beachy to match our kitchen and Spanish style beach house. This was the perfect fit. The tile is very easy to work with and installed perfectly. I went with the Natural tile color. Here are the products I used:1) SimpleMat instead of mortar. Tip: the 30ft roll is a pain. Get the 10ft boxes instead. They’re rectangle sheets instead of a roll. The only pros for using SimpleMat are it’s less messy and you can apply at your leisure. No race against the clock.2) Grout: Custom Building Products Polyblend Non-Sanded Grout #122 Linen. Tip: the 1lb ready-to-mix containers are great. Just add water into the container and apply. No buckets needed. Return what you don’t use.3) Custom Building Products Commercial Silicone Caulk 10.1 oz #122 Linen. Tip: one tube was plenty, but I bought extra just in case. Can also be used to fill grout gaps. Used to trim all the edges.4) 511 Impregnator Penetrating Sealer with Mira Brush to protect the tile and grout.General installation tips:- Use a wet saw; can get a cheap one at a hardware store- Use paint sticks on each side of the blade to hold the tile flat as you run it through the saw- Set up a drying station: a towel and a hair dryer to dry the tile after cutting so you can install it right away- Instead of cutting the tile around outlets, just trim the unneeded tiles out with scissors and piece the gaps with tile bits from the saw.- Look for crooked tiles on the mesh backing. Peel off and reapply. May want to apply a little glue when applying the pulled off pieces to the wall in case the mortar isn’t enough to grab it.- After applying the grout, go around with a small damp rag to clean off grout left behind in the tile grooves. As the grout dries, you’ll easily see it. I did 3-4 rounds of tile cleaning before I caught it all.Have fun!
