Peter Pan: Peter Pan (A Classic Collectible Pop-up) Review: Pop-up PETER PAN flys on it's own !!! - After collecting 16 of Sabuda's and Reinhart's pop-up books it is fun to compare them in both the illustration styles and the pop-up engineering! Each pop-up 2 page spread is a treat to examine and I ask myself "How did they do that?"The 2 page mermaid spread with Peter and 3 pretty mermaids reclining on a rock, with each mermaid in a playful pose is an example of the "How'd they do that?!" reaction! The pop-up movement of the characters with peter's feet crossing and the mermaid's bodies bobbing up and down on the rock when spreading and closing the pages slightly is both charming and magical!! I also like the attention to detail like the shiny silver scales on the fishtails! And the books have interesting views of the settings of the stories, like the aerial view of London with the pop-up clouds resembling, Captain Hook, the mermaids, Mr Smee and Tiger lily with Peter Pan flying near the moon with a silowette of Peter on it! And the mini pop-ups can be as intriguing as the large ones! Open a mini page one and the Darling children rise up in a totem pole pattern with Pan at the top as they start to fly! The Sabuda illustrations here remind me of the inspirational sketch art made by the illustraters for the preparation art from the making of Walt Disney's PETER PAN in the 1950s. At first I thought there might be something wrong with the pirate ship at the end of the book because the top deck did not lie down but stuck upward at an angle, but I realised that it's supposed to work like that! So I alway's press down on the front edge of the deck to make it line up with the front of the ship! My favorite pop-up boats in Sabuda's and Reinhart's books are the Argonaut's ship in GODS AND HEROES and the ship attacked by a Kraken in DRAGONS AND MONSTERS! These books are incredible! Both the adaptation text and the inventive pop-up design are well put together! While the fantasy images will appeal to kids the complexity of these pop-ups makes it better to recommend these books for adult collecters then to put them in little kids hands! Another winner for pop-up art!! I 've just uploaded a new PETER PAN POP-UP review video to give a better idea of this book's quality! I got the pop-ups to fit in for the most part! Hope you find it helpful! desertcart should increase the resolution of their video uploader! YouTube's uploader is significantly sharper with more detail then desertcart's uploader! Review: SIMPLY AMAZING! - This book is seriously AMAZING! My child wanted a pop up book for Christmas and after reading several reviews, we decided on this one, and I couldn't be more pleased!! The pop ups are so impressive and I can't help but sit and inspect and stare at them too! It feels sturdy, although I still encourage the kids to not touch the tiny details of the pictures. The book is colorful and the doesn't miss any part of the actual story line either. It has been a very fun book to read with my kids and one we will enjoy for a long time. Definitely not one to let a toddler play with- but my kindergartener handles and cares for it just fine. The spine of the book is about 3.5" wide, so that can give you a bit of an indication on how big these pop ups really are. Oh, and every full page pop up has additional little story pages on the sides or corners with additional little pop ups to read and enjoy! We couldn't be more pleased! The book is beautiful!

The best
These pop up books are so elaborate that little children need help closing the page correctly as not to mess up that page. I don't mean that in a bad way. Robert Sabuda has the most beautiful books and you are stricken when you see how complex his artwork is. It attracts children to the books (which is a wonderful thing) and includes their parents or other adults to read with them. (another plus) I have purchased many of his books and they are just amazing, wonderful and keepsakes. They make lovely gifts for both girls and boys and I don't think you can go wrong with them. My nephew loves pirates and the pop ups in this book delighted him and introduced him to an old classic. In this age I think it's important to keep the love of books alive and this is one way to introduce that to children.

Beautiful book!
I am absolutely impressed with the intricacy of this pop up book. Simply astounding! I bought the book as a birthday gift for an elementary school aged child with the hope that the pop up part will cause him to want to know the story. I hope he spends hours studying the pop ups and as a result learns the story, questions the reasoning, etc. I looked at it myself and opened everything and it all works. No damages, no tears, no stuck sections. It seems to be very well made. I hope it holds up to a young person's hands!

The best book I have ever bought
I bought this for my nephew for his birthday and I almost never gave it to him because I wanted it. This book is AMAZING!!!! The pop outs literally come out of the entire book, every turn of the page is an amazing adventure. And to cap it off, the pages have mini pages with more pop inserts in them. The whole story is in here. My nephew and I read only one page per night because we like to look at the amazing pop outs and there is so much to read on just one page because of the inserts. If yiu are gifting it, I recommend opening the pages and working the pop outs out of their stiffness first. This is the best buy ever. I will continue to buy more for more birthdays to come....and probably myself too. To live would be an awfully big adventure.

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!
How I wanted to keep this book, but I sent it along to a little 6 year-old grandson of a dear friend. After all, what could be better? A fantastic adventure story with tons of fantasy AND a work of art....all rolled into one! The workmanship on the popups is MOMA worthy, although I must say that the facial expressions leaved a tad to be desired. This was the same as in Mr. Sabuda's book, "Alice in Wonderland." That being said, I can't imagine a child or ANYONE not wanting to have this in their lives to read, enjoy and pass along to family members.

Prepare to be amazed
The author could teach a Master Class on pop-up books! This one is over-the-top amazing. The only drawback I found is that the words of the book are located in small book form on the pop-up page. I would say this is not for young children, but older ones might enjoy the beauty, especially the Peter Pan fans. I bought this for my 30-something niece to read to her little boy, but I bought it mainly for her as she is a big fan.

A smart, delicate way of turning a fantastic story into a beautiful work of art for all ages.
