Small in size, portable and very easy to useFew months after I wrote my review the HP SSD device failed and now my computer failed to recognize it. I is a useless piece of hardware. It had warranty for 3 years but no one from Amazon is responding to my complaint

I bought the HP SSD external hard drive to store and transfer my files, and I am very happy with it. This device is fast, reliable, and easy to use with both Windows and Mac laptops.The HP SSD external hard drive is very light and compact, making it easy to carry around. It connects via USB-C or USB-A ports, and it supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 speeds, which are very good. I have the 1 TB model, which has plenty of space for all my documents, photos, videos, and programs. I can also use it as a bootable drive or run programs directly from it.Overall, the HP SSD external hard drive is a great choice for anyone who needs a fast and portable storage solution. It is compatible with both Windows and Mac laptops, and it offers a good balance of speed, capacity, and durability. It is also reasonably priced, especially for the 1 TB model. Near as I can tell it's impossible to get support for this device as I have tried. The HP support site will not reveal the phone number for support unless you are able to put in a serial number in the correct format, and their site keeps rejecting the serial number on my device as an invalid format.I spent 2 hours calling first HP support and then I finally was able to get from them what was supposed to be the appropriate support number for these devices, for PNY, who apparently used to manufacture the solid state or USB storage devices that were branded as HP. These solid state drives are not such a device though as HP contracted with some other company to manufacture them.This is the second unit of the same model that I have had in as many years, and I'm warning you to avoid these like the plague. The first unit failed after 11 months in service plugged in as an external drive on an Xbox series s game system used only for game storage, since current gen games cannot be played from external USB storage.I thought this might have been a fluke and purchased a unit to replace the failed unit, that unit failed 12 months after purchase and is the unit I'm currently trying to figure out what to do to get support. I can provide screenshots and video of the behavior of the unit but I don't know who to even contact because the HP website is preventing me from knowing who to contact for support.These two drives have had very light use and appear to just stop working after about 1 year of use. It fails in a very inconvenient manner because it will behave like the drive is still working but if you try to format or copy data to the drive it will disappear from whatever system is plugged into because I think the storage itself is corrupting or damaged. So it just vanishes from your device and everything that was on it is just gone.Basically, buy one of these and take your chance on if the data you put onto it will still be accessible the next time you need it. Consumers you've been warned, is HP wants to reach out to me I'd be glad to revise this review but as of right now this is entirely valid and accurate.

I've been using this for 6 months with marvelous success. It is significantly faster than a flash drive it replaced. I'm actually using this SSD as a cache drive for an on-line application. Attached to a USB 3.0 port, it runs amazingly well. Various applications, running on a Windows-10 system, run much faster on this SSD than they did on flash drives.This portable SSD is also wonderful for moving large files between one computer and another.After 6 months of daily use, it has shown no signs of wearing out. I'm quite happy with it!

Fantastic value in a tiny package. Works great.

I'm using the drive as network storage and it's small enough to mount on my router. I had to format NTFS for compatibility but, other than that, it's plug-n-play. It's silent, fast and a spacesaver. I'd rate it 5 stars if it had an activity LED.

Excellent HD. Sturdy and Reliable. I am a writer, and wanted an external HD to backup (all) of my work during the past 25 years. This HD is not only compact, it is fast, reliable, and will make an excellent source for backup in the years to come. This is my second HP HD which will serve as a redundant backup device.HD comes with the black cable and adapter shown below the device. However, I purchased the silver cable above which doesn't need an adapter. Excellent Device! Worth every penny I paid. I hope this review is helpful.

I leave one of these attached to each of my Windows computers and use it for file history backup, which is perhaps outmoded because OneDrive also backs up my files. However, having a local backup gives me peace of mind and this little hard drive makes the process convenient. Arguably a high capacity flash drive could also be used for this purpose, but I have found this portable SSD to be more stable and harder to lose than flash drives. It is large enough to find but small enough not to be intrusive when it is a fixture on your desk.
