I use Lock Laces in all my outdoor shoes/boots and I think they are outstanding. The only downside is when your shoe/boot wears out and you have no way to use the old laces in new footwear. I just bought two new hiking boots (and new lock laces) when I thought to look for just the end clips. If you're like me and never looked for them, just go ahead and whack yourself in the head, then order a pack. Cheap, functional, and very easy to use. Highly recommend based on my experience with them.

These work very well, but you have to be really careful to measure because if you don't they will hit the ground. If you cut the lace too short or too long it's a problem. But outside of user error with the lace measurements, they work well. I am not sure if they can be opened though.
