No fuss, no frills, does a great job. My previous CD/DVD read/writer had been pre-installed in my PC, and was juddery. It played CDs poorly and, if I was ripping to listen to them on my MP3 player, introduced diginoise and skips. This one's perfect. Easy to install, it just does the job. And to be able to write DVD9s at this price - great value.

The drive itself is fine. Purchased to replace an internal drive which had "died". Instalation was straight forward and easy. No issues with the drive, but I have deducted a star due to the lack of adequate (safe) packaging to ensure its safe arrival. It's only packaging being a plastic bag which was the shipped in a brown paper bag. Computer components should be either in a box or protected with bubble wrap.

Needed this urgently as pc died and i had had prolems with my old drive not reading any discs ayt all. Plugeed it in and was perfect on first use

Is it Hitachi? Is it LG? Hmm… well, the box says it's 'TSST Designed by Toshiba Sam sung [sic] Storage TechnologyCorporation'. However, the back of the box appears to indicate that it contains four screws, a manual and a disc with Nero 10 Essentials, so it is rather pleasing to find that there is a DVD writer in there at all. Once fitted into my Linux box—that went swimmingly as I had a spare SATA cable and socket available—booting up found the drive immediately. It is reported as an 'HP DDVDW TS-H653R'. The nearest official HP device has the model number 'CDDVDW…' odd, but they are indeed manufactured by Toshiba for HP. I purchased this drive to replace a 13-year-old Plextor that had done sterling work but had recently stopped burning DVDs. My first test of the drive with an audio CD proved a failure, however, and so I left a three-star review here. After testing the same CD on multiple machines, I discovered that it was a faulty CD! I was just unlucky in choosing that one to do my first test. Further tests have been 'ripping' successes. I have regraded my rating to five stars since the drive's performance is excellent—a bad CD cannot reflect badly upon the equipment.

Sólo vino la grabadora, ni tornillos, ni cables ni cd de regalo ni instrucciones. No me extraña viniendo desde donde vino (UK). En fin, la próxima vez miraré bién lo de adquirir algo a los piratas ingleses.

fonctionne très bien et pas chers pour un graveur, un peu bruyant lors d'un exe depuis un laser vers le pc pour mise en place d'un log car il tourne très vite, mais c'est normal je pense, sinon, si vous avez comme moi des fiche IDE, alors que c'est un Sata ce graveur en connections, je vous conseil d'acheter avec l'adaptateur Sata vers IDE, c'est ce que j'ai fait et ça fonctionne. De plus, je l'ai acheter aussi sur Amazon et le moins chers, voici sa dénomination : xiwai Adaptateur convertisseur de disque SATA vers IDE/PATA 40 broches PCBA pour ordinateur de bureau et disque dur 2,5" 3,5. pour 9.40 euros, vous ne le regretterez pas, cela a rajeuni mon vieux pc, hihihi
