These are the best ancho chilies I have found. If someone has something better let me know.
1. These ancho chilies are half the price of those in my grocery store.2. More important, they taste better. the ones from the store are dry with a paper like texture. These are more leathery. They have a stronger smell.3. The heat level is where it's supposed to be, tingly, not overpowering. I remove the stems and seeds, heat them in a cast iron pan for a few seconds, simmer them in pot with beef stock for a half hour then put them in a blender. it makes a great base for chili and a lot of other dishes.

We've enjoyed these peppers for our homemade Birria Tacos! Delicious! They aren't too hot and they are a great value!

really dang spicy!
I bought these after my local grocery store stopped carrying the brand I usually buy. so I thought I'd give these a try, and the heat and spicy level of these made them completely unusable for me. Way spicer than any other ancho chili I've ever gotten before. I wouldn't recommend these unless you can handle heat and enjoy the spice level.

Wow! These are amazing!
I couldn’t find anchos in my local store for a while so purchased these ones, but while I was waiting for them to arrive my store restocked so I grabbed a pack of the supermarket brand and when the 1400s Anchos arrived I did a taste test to see if the extra cost on these was worth it.I can say with a resounding YES that the 1400s anchos blew the store brand out of the water!Right out of the pack the1400s Anchos are far softer and more pliable making it easier to deseed them without dry fragments and seeds flying all over your kitchen.Aroma wise these have an intense wonderful rich dried fruit smell compared to the store brand which had much less aroma, and were a little sour smelling.Flavor wise the 1400s were sweet-sour ending in sweet earthiness with a rich full flavor. The store brand had very little sweetness just a strong sour flavor.Hands down the 1400s Ancho chiles were superior in every way making the price difference worth every penny! No more grocery store Anchos for me!If this review has been helpful to you, you might like to check out my profile.
