Paradox Party
A really fun and intriguing way to handle the bootstrap paradox! Hilarity mixed with time traveling wizards with iPhones. Incredible! On to the next book!

Computer nerds who wanna be wizards and witches muck up the fabric of the spacetime continuum and find their true inner selves separate from the burden of magical thinking.
This volume is better than the one before. There are several character arcs that evolve and change the world of the series for the next one. There is always lots of humor on very page, yet this episode has some anger and sadness of loss as well. Great 80’s references which is perfect for a reader in my generation X but might be lost on a hippie or a millennial.

Better than most of these reviews would have you believe, but...
*SPOILER FREE!!!!I really like this series. I am invested in the characters and by far my favorite two characters are Philip and Jimmy. I like Martin as well but IMO Jimmy and Philip are more interesting/complex characters than the others. With that in mind, this book was better than I was expecting in some ways (considering all the reviews I have read), and ultimately disappointing due to the single issue of understanding WHY the major conflict of the book was necessary. If the entertainment value had been slightly higher I could have ignored the injustice of the conflict resolution or the severe beating (figurative and literal) that a major character takes in this book. You can chalk it up to "well sometimes bad things happen to people for no reason and that is just the way the world works", but if I wanted to read a book about how the world REALLY WORKS, i would not be reading the "MAGIC 2.0" series about science fiction in middle aged England!!! I dislike the overt gender imbalance in the books (maybe i am just sick of getting blamed for the worlds problems as a guy!) as I do in most media where women are smart and sassy and forgiven for flaws and men are bumbling idiots who have to pay a huge price for the slightest lapse in judgement. As a theme, it would be tolerable, but the sheer over the top man bashing that happens is too much for my palette! I liked the humor of the book and thought that as a side note or section of a larger story with a better resolution it would have been fantastic! I like how the magic is growing with the characters and that their ideas about what they do is maturing with the series. I do not like how short this book was. Not enough to justify the $25 price tag. Again I really did like this book for the most part but the above issues keep it from being above average or excellent. 3 stars is about right and it is worth the read if you like this series and hope that it continues, it does not deserve all of the hate that it has been getting!

Better than expected
I read several reviews on this book before I read the book itself, and they seemed largely mediocre. I actually felt like this book received more hate than it deserved. I enjoyed it! I absolutely adore the first book, and thoroughly enjoyed books two and three as well. Book four was disappointing, but book five redeemed the series again. While I do feel like this is a four star book, not a five star book, as a big fan of Magic 2.0 I feel obligated to try to bring up its average star rating, because 3.5 is too low. I love Scott Meyer's writing, and once I finish the sixth installment of the series that was just released yesterday, I will surely be reading more of Meyer's work.

Not more of the same!
I fell in love with Scott Meyer's sort of tongue in cheek style but, frankly, was getting tired of it by book four. This book has a darker tone, more serious, and actually more refreshing for the series as a whole. You may laugh a little bit less, but will be harder to part with the reading than the previous volume. I'm actually looking forward reading Book Six!

Another great entry in the series
I really enjoyed this book. Read it in a couple of days. I don't understand the hate that the last two books have gotten and I am very glad the author doesn't seem to be letting it affect his writing. There is a lot of fun time travel in this entry and I feel it was handled very well. And the characters continue to act as they have throughout the series which is why I find it so odd that it's bothering people now. I have to assume that most of the people who enjoyed the previous books will enjoy this one as well. Although if you suddenly had problems with the 4th book, this one may or may not bring you back into the fold. I was also a little worried about 3/4 of the way through because it seemed like he might be wrapping things up and this would be the end of the series. But luckily the last page dispels that and makes me very excited for the next book.

A Cute Continuation
Full of mostly forgivable paradoxes (to be expected in a universe where any of the principals can travel to any time and place, including one that they themselves occupy which is not their own natural timeline), it can get a bit headspinny. But it's a good, quick and enjoyable sequel, and clearly set up for a book 6. If you've followed the series, there's no reason not to continue through this one!

Great series!
I loved the series! They were hilarious, clever, interesting, and extremely entertaining. There are those out there that say some of the books in the middle weren't as good as the last and first, but I enjoyed them all.

Awesome series
This is a really good series. Not my favourite book, mostly because of an inevitable event but don’t want to spoil it. Very good book though, and defo worth reading the whole series

Kurzweilige Unterhaltung

Change of tone didn't work for me
I read and enjoyed each of the previous books in the series, and particularly enjoyed their light-hearted tone. I did not enjoy this volume as much: the plot focuses heavily on the free will Vs predestination argument that has been a background plot in earlier novels, and has a darker and more bitter tone to me. I also didn't enjoy the Deus ex Machina nature in which the plot was resolved with little real explanation: I hope this is an intentionally loose thread for future books to follow up.I hope the next book returns to previous form!
