These are far better than the derwent set I have
I've previously purchased another brand of these pencils but found the colors to be too light and the actual pencil lines to be very difficult to blend with water. These are far better than the derwent set I have. The colors are more intense and the pencils seem softer and easier to not only get on paper when you use the pencil dry but also to blend like traditional watercolors. There is a good selection of colors and a small brush is included as well. For me, I still prefer actual water colors but I'd say as far as this style of water color pencils, these ones are really good value for money and much better quality / easier to use to good effect.

A bit disappointing when they started to mutate....
At first I thought these were going to be decent pencils - the shade range is good, using them dry gave decent results with soft coverage and true colours. The pencils themselves look a bit odd - the actual points have a white 'rim' showing as well as the colour. It all started to go pear shaped when the pencils came into contact with water - which is pretty useless as they are water-colour pencils!Whatever you do, do not get the actual body of the pencil (ie the wood bit) wet. It slowly but surely begins to morph into some strange mutant Thing. The white part of the pointy-end starts to swell, until it splits the wood and starts to bulge out. Seriously peculiar! I ended up having to stick an elastic band on the end of a couple of pencils to still be able to use them.Maybe I shouldn't have allowed them to become wet - but as they are meant to be used with a wet brush (and also seem marketed towards kids and hobby artists) it's highly likely that they will come into contact with water. So yes, a strange experience!

Easily blendable, wonderfully soft lead, and they make beautiful watercolour art
I bought these to go along with my purchase of Chat-thérapie : 100 coloriages anti-stress recently, and they have not disappointed me. Without using the watercolour option, the colour is beautiful and smooth, with the lead being lovely and soft. When invoking the watercolour feature, it's important to use enough colour for the type of watercolour effect you're going for: too little, and it won't melt enough colour to blend out; too much, and it'll be too opaque to look like watercolour. In the video, I'm using Water Brush Pen Set Xpassion Artist Paint Bruh Pen 3pcs [Guaranteed Satisfaction ] which is an excellent choice of tool (I received the brushes free for review purposes; I purchased the Staedtler out of my own pocket) to use for watercolour pencils, as the brush remains wet at all times. Using the right amount of water is the key to getting a good look from these pencils, and is something I'm still learning how to do, but the pencils themselves are excellent, and a sound investment, especially as they can be easily blended, while wet. Best colouring pencils by far
I never understood 'expensive' pencils, I thought they all did the same job..boy was I wrong! I've been using my daughters pencil case to use with my new adult colouring book but started to shop around for new colours & read reviews & came across these. From the excellent reviews I'd read I was sold. You really do see & feel the difference when using these, the colour glides on & there's plenty control of the strength of colour, no need to press hard. Best pencils ever & I've recommend to many. Thank you

Great set, but not colourfast
These are a great set of watercolour pencils. They blend nicely, and when enough water is painted over them, they look like they've been done with actual paints, which is just what I wanted.I knocked off one star because (a) the white pencil is useless (b) there's no purple and (c) they aren't colourfast, either before or after water is added. So your hand or the opposite page of the sketchbook can get a bit smudgey. But a great set, and I'd've been happy to pay double the price for them.
