Great for Matted Dogs
I have a cute Golden Doodle, "Nessie", who is very prone to bad matting, especially behind her ears, but generally she gets matted all over. We like to let her hair grow long because it looks so cute, but the matts get worse as it gets longer. Previously I'd been using a basic set of Wahl clippers which simply couldn't keep up. They would literally cut a quarter inch and then jam up. It took me over 4 hours to cut Nessie! In desperation I finally decided to splash out and go for these Oster clippers after reading good reviews. I can honestly say these clippers are AMAZING. They glide through Nessie's matts like butter. Almost as if they weren't there at all. I've had them for several months now, and given her three cuts. Each time, same result. Effortless cutting. They are definitely on the expensive side, but WORTH EVERY PENNY in my opinion. Pros: Amazing at cutting through matts. Overall very easy to use. Quiet motor. Comes with spare lubricating oil and motor grease. Long cord, so I no longer needed to use an extension cord. Cons: On the expensive side. Quite heavy and chunky, but not excessively so. Seem to get quite hot, but not so hot that it bothers my dog. Final Thoughts: I can cut my dogs hair in 1 hour now! Thats 4 times faster than when I used my old Wahl clippers. I wish I'd bought these clippers sooner. They do what they are supposed to do, and they do it very very well. Buy them, you won't regret it.

Works great on my German Snauzers
I purchased these Oster Pro Turbo A5 clippers to start grooming our two German Snauzers. I was typically spending approx $150/month on grooming and often times getting inconsistent results. When I received the clipper, I was impressed with the build quality. I felt like I was able to step back in time and an buy old school USA made product that just feels like it was made to last. One of my Snauzers have what is called a “mega coat”. Basically just a thick coat of fur. This clipper cuts effortlessly through her coat with no issue. Please note that on my initial use, the clipper seemed to get really hot fast. I realized that the clipper needed oiling/cleaning prior to each dog. Here is what I do before each use and before I store the clipper; with clipper on low speed, I put a drop of clipper oil on both ends of the blade and one drop in the middle. I then spray the Oster blade cleaner (blue spray can) on the running blade, then turn off and wipe off excess. This will typically get me through an entire session with cool to luke warm blades. If needing extended time, spray blades with blue can again and it will cut out most of the heat. When done, clean out the hair, oil/clean/store. These are heavy duty and light years beyond the products in retail stores. FYI- I typically only use the low speed cuz these clippers are powerful ;)

Persian Cat
Purchased this to use on my persian cat. First time using it, my cat was really matted and fur was very long. This was excellent at cutting through her mats! It worked like a knife through soft butter. I was really impressed with how easy it was to use and how efficiently it cut. It does get hot super fast so you do need cooling spray and/or an extra clipper to use while this one cools down. I had a small chi I used while this cooled. It also is louder than I expected, other reviewers said it was super quiet but I found it to be louder than other clippers I have used. I did use the slower setting also, because the faster setting scared my cat too much. I did not use clipper guards, as I really needed to get to her skin, and it REALLY got to her skin. I knicked her a few times. So if you are not going to use guards, be very careful. The second time I used it my cat's hair wasn't as long or matted, but I wanted to keep her at about an inch. So I purchased the guards and used them with it. The guards made it a lot more difficult, the hair kept getting clogged after less than a minute and I had to clean and brush it out. It took forever, even longer than the first time. It was good because I never got too close to her skin, and her look afterwards was very nice, but it was a pain and doubled the amount of time. I have used several different clippers on my cat, and despite this one getting hot quickly and being loud, it really is the best I have used.

I hope this was just a dud - returning, replacing and trying again...
We have an English Shepherd (mix) with a thick double coat, and he goes through one “significant” shed per year that just started. We live in the south and a few years ago we began clipping him down in the spring - he’s visibly more comfortable and active afterwards. We had been using our old (15+ yrs) Oster clippers we used to use on my husband’s hair - I think we bought those for $35 and they cut through anything and did a great job. When it came time to replace them we decided to upgrade since we have four dogs. Our Oster Professional Turbo 5 arrived on Thursday and Saturday morning we started grooming. They did a great job for 1/8 of one side of our English - at that point they stopped being effective and were coming close to being too hot to handle. This was on the high setting because they wouldn’t even begin clipping His fur on the lower setting. At this point I turned the clippers off to let them cool and began “clipping” our English with a scissors (thinking maybe the problem was too much fur or too thick a coat). After about 15 minutes, and brushing out the blade, I tried again. Still no luck. I finished clipping with the scissors with the plan that I’d let the clippers cool longer and use them to polish up the chunky scissors clip. About 45 minutes later they didn’t work any better than they did when they quit cutting the first time. Tomorrow is Easter so these will be returned next week. I’m hoping that it’s simply a defective pair and a replacement will do the trick - I’d hate to think the cheap (human) clippers work far better than ones marketed as “professional.” I’m reserving judgement - Oster is a solid company with products that typically hold up very well. We’ll see how the replacement clippers work.

Decent clippers but not as good as my 20 yr old Wahl clippers
I bought these for my mom so I could clip her little terrier dog at home and save money vs. the groomer. I had been clipping him for years using a 20 yr old pair of middle of the line Wahl clippers that worked great until they died one day. During that time we have been using them about 3 times a year to clip either a mini poodle or a 30 lb terrier and never oiled or cleaned them. Even the last year when the old pair was very slow it still trimmed better than these new things. These clippers are not bad but they do not clip as well as my old pair. I think the quality of materials and build is just lower. They worked well enough and did not get as hot as people said in other reviews. I have not tried any other new clippers and just figured these would be the best you could get. They are decent and I will keep them but think that they should work much better. When I clipp the dogs very hairy feet they sort of miss a lot of hair and don't cut it. I have to move the clippers very slowly and/or go over some areas a few times to cut all the hair. I would try another brand or model if I were buying again.

TERRIERS, HORSES, AND GOATS...OH MY!!
I NEVER review items I purchase. I felt the need to review these clippers. I run a small ranch. We have horses, dogs, and breed dairy goats. I needed an all purpose clipper that would work on all my animals. Shipping was FAST and I got them next day (as I specified). I tore open the box, and admired my pretty BLUE clippers. Being it was too dark to clip my livestock, I eyed my hairy, matted Wire Haired Fox Terrier. Much to her dismay (and my delight!) She was the first guinea pig for my new Osters. After many promises of cheese and cookies I wrangled her and started clipping!! Holy HAIR!! Cut her hair smooth and FAST!! The whole job done in about 15-20 minutes (we're talking farm dog special. NOT show pen grooming) there was no hair pulled (as has happened with previous models) and didn't nick her once! She feels and smells SO MUCH better!! I have used many brands. These are FAR superior! The price is decent (TSC wanted more for a lower quality clipper) . They do get hot, but I find taking a rest and using KOOL LUBE helps a bunch. If these handled her rough, coarse, matted coat this well, my horses and goats will be cake!! They come with a #10 blade, so if you want guards or different blades, they have to be bought separate. A simple cut on my terrier runs $50-$60, in two haircuts these will have paid for themselves. They are loud, but having two speeds is awesome!! They are heavy and a tiny bit clunky, but as I said before, I'm doing functional, not pretty haircuts. I will only use Oster clippers from now on!! BEST PURCHASE EVER!
