The BEST budget option. EXCELLENT customer service.
I primarily shoot with the Sony A7sII and the base of my rig is the Movcam cage and rail system. This is hands down the best budget matte box I've ever used. It feels sturdy- built mostly with metals and some high-grade plastics in select areas. The matte box glides right onto my rig's 15mm rods- buttery smooth. I also have the FOTGA DP3000 M3 matte box, which was ok for a cheapo unit, but it didn't work too well with my Movcam A7s rig (the slide adjust didn't go down low enough to line up my with lenses evenly). Not only is this box MILES better than the 3000 M3 model, the DP500 Mark III fits PERFECTLY with my Sony A7sII and Movcam cage & rail system. You can just feel the difference in quality when you hold it in your hands. I should have just bought the DP500 in the first place, but meh, at least I can use the 3000 M3 with my B cam. I also purchased this unit specifically for the 4x4 sized filter trays. I use the excellent Light Craft Workshop 4x4 Variable ND filters, which are pretty thick slabs of glass. This is the first budget matte box in which the trays fit my ND glass properly. Are there any cons to this matte box? We're about to head into nitpick territory... but speaking of the filter trays, I wish they were made of aluminium like the rest of the matte box's structure. Instead, they're made out of what appears to be a really nice high-grade plastic. Don't get me wrong- they're extremely durable and I'm fully confident that they'll function well in the long run, but the package would be pretty much perfect if they were constructed out of some sort of lightweight metal. Also, there's not much of a stop for the filter trays when you insert them so make sure you have them screwed in tight! There is some minimal friction holding them into place, but the trays could potentially fall through the bottom if left unscrewed, shattering any glass filters you might be using on the floor. These really are just nitpicks though and honestly don't take anything away from how awesome and functional this matte box truly is.Furthermore, I have communicated with the folks at Fotga in the past and they are extremely helpful and accommodating. They practice some of the best customer service I've ever dealt with. And have I mentioned how sexxxxxxxxxy this matte box makes my rig look??? That carbon fiber.... mmhmmmmm. If you're on the fence about this box, don't hesitate. GET ONE.

Amazing matte box, extremely pro grade.
Fantastic matte box for the price, honestly it is built incredibly well. Even feeling and looking like some of the very high end matte boxes out there. I provided some photos of the matte box on my rig and it is fantastic. The thumbscrews are solid and lock tight. The barn doors and eyebrow are aluminum and are solid, I can see them getting scratches over time but that's not really going to bother me. It is carbon fiber and it definitely has that professional weight to it. It is not at all to heavy or light. The swing away feature is exceptionally solid as well. It swings far out enough so I can totally fix anything that happens behind. It locks in place too!Overall, it's a fantastic matte box. I personally don't have any cons and I'm a very picky person. It is a bit pricey if you are looking for a budget matte box but definitely splurge and pick this one up over any of the other cheaper options.

High End Matte Box - Great product.
Great solid product that I added to my JTZ DP-30 rig. Very professional build but I gave it one less star because the maximum width for the 4x4 filters is 4mm and the cinema filters I was getting was 5mm which would not fit. I have to use the thinner filters for the matte box. Otherwise, it is a very nice product to have for your professional DSLR.

A Winner for FOTGA
Very well made. Takes care of the pesky (if not desired), flares when using focal reducer. ABS plastic insert (1 included) works to provide added shade without having to use the nicely done flags that are also provided. However, it only comes with one insert. It functions well with wide angle lenses. I have since made my own (3), for various focal lengths. They really do work! All in all I’d say that this is a fine product. Not too big or heavy. Highly recommended. Oh yeah, the swing away is quality and just overall aesthetic of entire kit is top notch. 4.5 stars. I’m currently using it with Panasonic AF100.

cracked. I sent per their specifications and was simply told I must have screwed up. den of thieves!
matte box semmed great I honestly just think I godt one that was a lemon. It happens. the canavision filter I had no problem as I noticed it came from adaroma and having a good relationship with most film houses. they were more than happy to immeditatly assist.

Damned near perfect - not yet.
I really, really wish I could give this thing 5 stars but there are reasons why I can't:First, the vertical adjustment is nearly non-existent. If it doesn't perfectly line-up with your lenses/camera height you'll have to get a rod-adjustment extension. That's not cheap and hard to find an adjustable one.Second, the way it was built you CANNOT slide the mattebox back on the rails past the lower lip; the rails hit the shield and there's no way to get it up high enough to allow the rails to pass under. Typical Chinese engineering, not fully thought through. But the unit looks fabulous. The quality of the components is AWESOME.And unlike other swing-away matteboxes I've looked at this one is built like a tank and the swing mechanism itself is super-sturdy and does NOT rock back and forth when you tilt the camera up or down. That's a big plus - others I've tested the swing mechanism was so weak that the entire rig would cut loose and swing open when you tilted the camera down!!! This one is totally stable. If the vertical adjustment was actually usable and you could pull the rods fully under the rig it would be perfect. But for those major flaws I had to return it.

Great professional matte box
Fotga makes quality gear. I originally bought them because one of their items was the lower price for something, but now just search for Fotga first as it is always in my price range, I've never been disappointed by their products, and their support is great as well. This matte box is professional. Heavy duty, works great with my filters, and the lens shades lock in place and don't flap around. Also the quick release to swing away the matte box to change lenses is great and heavy duty. Great product, great price.
