This filter holds a lot of water so becomes very heavy when running which can be a potential hazard, as the aquarium could break apart, also the weight of the pump is heavy. The construction of the filter chamber is made of cheap plastic so the noise from impeller gets too loud and becomes annoying, stick to your Marineland filter or spend some money and get a Fluval canister filter which is virtually noiseless.

This filter is literally silent. Other than the actual sound of the water this thing doesn't make a sound. I have 2 aquariums in my bedroom and the one running this filter is right beside my bed, so having a filter that doesn't vibrate or hum is very important to me. It even has a buffer on the back to press up against your tank to stop vibrations. Give it time when you fire it up for the first time - it might seem like it is not working but it needs time to suck up water and get going.I recommend this filter 100% (plus the Amazon price is a solid 25$ cheaper than any pet store around here)

Awesome filter. Having 5 fish tanks running at the same time in my house, 4 out of 5 of my filters are Aqueon. I was using the same as this but without the led light feature. The only reason I bought a new one is because the one I had was a bit noisy as the motor couldnt be clipped anymore to the body of the filter. The part that the motor clips to had gotten broken and it still worked great these last 3 to 4 years. I will keep the pieces as extra parts. I have never had any of my Aqueon filters fail or die on me. This is why I stick to this brand.

Bought one, it worked for 2 months then motor burned out. Bought another one just got it delivered. Hooked it up and plugged it in and housing was cracked and spilled water over back of tank/wall/power bar. Not happy as I can't even return first one I bought cause its been 30 days. It sucks cause I really liked this filter before. I had one on my other tank for 3 years and it's still running. 3 years straight, so maybe this is just bad luck.

I've had a few different HOB filters and this is by far the quietest but the LED component is pointless!! I had it set running for just over 24 hrs and it started flashing indicating I needed to change the filters, at that rate I would be changing the filters every other day.
