Q: So why is this being advertised as leather when it is not? The Description should be changed.

It’s described as “faux” leather meaning “fake” leather. They are not saying it’s 100-% leather. Description is fine as is.

Q: How do you get rid of the funny smell?

since it is faux leather- - I recommend turning bag inside-out and spraying lightly with Febreze scented fabric refresher. And then storing it with several dryer sheets inside to keep it smelling nice! Best dryer sheets: Bounce Outdoor Fresh, LoveHomePlanet Rose (I use these in my underwear drawer; rose scent is amazing!). I even leave some of the Rose sheets in my purse or jacket pockets while I’m wearing :-D

Q: Can school books be carried

No. It costs $13 and change. Don’t expect something cheap to carry heavy items.
