Seems to work perfectly
We had a Winegard roof top TV dome antenna installed 6 years ago (about $1200)on our motorhome. For some reason, the PC board didn't work a few months ago, so before getting another antenna, we researched quite a bit and a knowledgeable technician who works installing Winegards at our local RV sales/repair shop, suggested a Winegard G2+ which is a heavier duty one made usually for truckers. It can be put outside on the ground or mounted on the roof of an RV. I called Winegard and got the same information. They were out of stock and suggested ordering from Amazon, but also had to order a new mounting kit. The older Winegard had a wider base than the G2+. The technician took off the old one, installed the new G2+, set up the DirectTV receiver we use in our motorhome, all within an hour. The TV promptly found the satellite and everything works. Now my question is -- will this one last more than 6 years??? It also cost in the neighborhood of $1100. Be aware, though, there is an inch higher on the roof now and our RV garage just barely lets the coach get under the door frame.

Works in rain.
This satellite dish worked as advertised. It is a breeze to set up, and once the receiver is activated, the reception of Direct TV came in very strong. The signal it got was very strong. This unit worked well in a strong thunderstorm when the RV was shaking with the wind. Remember, this unit only receives standard definition, but in our RV, with a 26" TV, the picture is very good. Also bear in mind, you need the older Direct TV receiver, for the standard definition. Do not buy an old standard def receiver from anyone, it might not be deactivated.

Works as Promised, But Already Obsoleted!
I bought this unit in Dec 2017 to replace an aging model 1518, but did not get to use it until June 2018. I opened the box and everything was included as promised. I hooked the unit up to a new Direct TV HR23-500 receiver in my fifth wheel RV, and after startup received the 771 code . I called Direct TV, with my Winegard instructions in hand, and a talented tech assistant named Amanda worked me through the entire startup in a very friendly and smooth manner. The entire system was initiated, programed, and working in about 20 minutes. Everything worked exactly as expected. However, I am disappointed in the short co-ax cable Winegard includes. It is small, poor quality, and with difficult-to-use nuts. Once the system was up and running I replaced the short cable with a high quality, almost new, short cable made for me by a Direct TV technician, and it works much better. Due to RV length and the needed location for the Antenna on my roof-ladder mount, the 25' cable furnished by Winegard was also too short. I changed it to a 50' cable from my 1518, also made by Direct TV, and the system still worked to perfection. I used it again 2 weeks later, and the startup was smooth, quick and worked as it should. I am upset with Winegard, for bringing out the G3 and making this unit obsolete so quickly. One big disadvantage of this unit is the lack of ability to accept HD signals from DTV, but that is mostly DTV's fault.

Works perfect with my dr54/500 genie
Bought this to work with our directtv receiver model dr54/500 genie receiver. also need to buy the swim840 kit to get this to work with the genie. Can only get channels in standard definition but it works great ! Wineguard support was excellent as I called them for some some help I neededwith cabling of the swim 840 kit. The support number is sent either the manual for the dish. Hold Time was short and support was excellent ! All works perfectly. Finds the satellite in less than 5 minutes

Simpler is better.
This unit had the power over cable feature and it was a nightmare. Tried to get help but to no avail. Difficult to get an actual person to talk to. Power module was of very poor quality and cheep inserter cable. The end actually came off. Returned it for a G2 (without the +) and it works great. Power is only needed at initial setup with the G2, then it can be disconnected and stored. Simpler is sometimes better. Had a lot of Winegard products over the years, I am sure they will improve the G2+.

bulletproof unit
i own a semi and drive 130,000 miles per year over some real crap roads. wind, rain, snow and salt. my last unit lasted 3 years of this. the only thing wrong was the 12 volt wire corroded the terminal off. unstead of fixing it i just bought a new unit. this has no 12 volt wire connection. it simply uses the antenna cable to achieve dish movement. in the past i used vu-cube, a "king controls" unit...or should i say several units. i became a king mechanic! always working on the darn thing. the people in Minnesota at the factory are pretty much totally worthless. there is no comparison, so very happy with this G-2. the people at wineguard and direct were very helpful upon my original setup, and professional. i didn't bother running the new antenna cable when installing the new antenna unit because the original cable was still in perfect shape. excellent product.

Receiver Compatability Issues- Directv
This DOES NOT work with all receivers listed. Winegard says the HR24 is the one to use, and that is a $200-250 receiver. I'm sure it will work fine once I purchase that, but I think it is false advertising to list other receivers if they do not work as they should. I consistently get error code 771 and need to disconnect sat 1 cable to get the r22 to work. Once I do that it only works a few hours before error codes reappear.

Doesnt get all the channels/satellites
While this product did work to automatically find the satellite some of our Direct TV channels, it did not do what was advertised. Though we have a compatible Direct TV receiver ( according to the Winegard provided materials) we were not able to receive the local channels using this satellite receiver as it did not get the satellite we needed for access to the local channels. This was all in all an expensive and frustrating experience and we finally gave up after untold hours on the phone with Winegard and Direct TV, and 2 visits from a direct TV technician. Had we known that this would only provide us with channels 70 and above, we would have never spent the $ to purchase it.
