Weird but it does the job.
First, let me tell you why I started the new kitchen sponge quest. I don’t want my obit to read that I was murdered by some grungy, bacteria-laden kitchen sponge. That would be embarassing and reflect poorly on my housekeeping skills and intelligence. So I want a sponge that won’t try to kill me. I wash dishes by hand, by choice. I have tried just about every sponge the grocery stores and big box store (you know the one) offer and every one ends up smelling putrid after three days. To me, “putrid” equates to “potentially deadly.”Yes, I have them in an airy place, have boiled them, nuked them, and even sprayed them with bleachy kitchen cleaners. Yet still, I end up going through sponges like I’m rich or something. So after exhausting research, I decided to try something new, these “sponges.” Well, they aren’t really sponges. They don’t sponge up anything. Nothing. Nada. That’s the point, though. They don’t sponge up and harbor bacteria like fugitives, it just slips out with the water! Now, these non-sponges ARE different to use. It’s sort of like trying to wash dishes with a live flounder. They are slippery. So you have to capture and grasp it so it doesn’t get away and flop around the kitchen floor. I’ve found that simply folding it in half does the trick. With a good, firm grasp, dunk it in your soapy dishwater and use as a sponge. It may take a little longer to remove food debris but it definitely works, especially if you let the dishes soak a few minutes. If you’re wanting to just squirt a bit of dishwashing liquid on this “sponge” and wash a few dishes without benefit of a sink full of soapy water, you’re in for a bit of a rodeo. The soap adds to the slipperiness, thus the escapability of the critter. So hold on tight and you’ll win.Two things this critter won’t do: scrub hard food away and do kitchen wipe-down. It’s squiggly and super soft and not designed for a food fight. Nor does it sop up anything so you can get the counters, table, and appliances wet with it but you’ll need a paper towel to dry them. Finally, when you’re done, just rinse it out and slap the critter several times on the side of the sink then put it some place to air dry, which it will do very obediently. So far, my sniff tests make me believe there is little or no funky, deadly bacteria lurking behind. So, if like me, that’s your priority, I highly recommend this pseudo-sponge. I’d rather wrestle with this new fangled sponge than potentially be taken out by an old fangled one.

Bought and tried other uses 😄
So I had gotten one like this a few years ago, larger and round, at the Tree Store Where Everything Used To Be A Dollar. I wish I’d gotten more because they don’t carry them anymore. I never used it for cleaning dishes or pans; rather I found it very nice in the shower to exfoliate my skin from time to time. It holds soap suds or body wash gel, and comfortably scrubs my skin without being harsh. I even use it on my face and occasionally other areas. Always rinses clean and no smell. However I wish I had another as a backup. So when I saw these silicone sponges , which were supposed to be larger than usual, I decided to give them a try.One of them I tried for scrubbing a stainless steel pan, and also tried n my kitchen counter. Not so scrubby and not very effective on stuck-on food stains. Not very absorbent for liquid spills on the counter top.I tried another in the shower. Nice for exfoliating like my current one, but a bit too small for my liking compared to my original. One other use I found was for stroking my cat to remove excess fur. It was ok at this, it didn’t pull out as much as a brush , but my kitty seems to enjoy it. (Probably simulates another cat’s tongue licking it? 😄) I could have seen maybe using this almost every day, but the loaded up hair is very difficult to get out. I also tried this on my couch which had excess cat hair; again it picked up ok (not great), but was difficult to clean out afterwards.

Never go to bed angry or with dirty dishes in the sink, as the old saying goes. I will never be that person, I hate doing dishes at night so they typically wait until the morning unless they're going to cause a bad odor.I highly recommend these for anyone who is on the fence and owns a dishwasher. I just slightly recommend it for anyone who is going to be using them to fully hand wash dishes. My largest concerns when buying was about A) Lather quality B) Slipping C) Scrub PowerA) The lather quality is actually really great. It makes amazing bubbles and satisfying squeaky sounds. However, you WILL have to use more dish soap than a normal sponge because these do not absorb the soap. I would say I typically can wash about 5 cups before I need more soap with these so it's still not bad.B) Slipping: Not an issue at all. They stay gripped in hand pretty well. I was afraid this could be an issue when working with large delicate glass items like my cold brew pitchers or my not so delicate Pyrex dishes. No issues with losing grip or items slipping away from it.C) Scrub power is where I start to change my recommendation based on how much you will rely on these. If you're using a dishwasher they will work great for getting most things clean enough with no visible debris if cleaned quick enough. However if you have anything stuck on it will not get them clean. Don't judge me here, but in the AM my water cups have a ring where the water level was and it doesn't even get that cleared off without a bit of soaking. It's for sure not going to completely replace your old sponge, but it will reduce the use of them by a lot. I say for sure worth the money. I also hand wash a lot of dishes and I'm still very happy with the purchase; I just sometimes have to do a quick pass with my old sponge on some of the dishes I hand wash. I find myself sanitizing rather than tossing my old sponge now because it is used so lightly.Final note . . . If you ever eat anything that can stain, these will get stained. Mine were stained from day 1 with spaghetti sauce.

Not what advertised!
This product is not as advertised. We had one from Bed Bath and Beyond which was of excellent quality and needed a replacement. What we received is much smaller than what was shown in the photo. It is not 5" long, but 3.5". They compare Geloo vs. Others in the photo, well you will be sent one of the Others. So it was instantly returned to Amazon for a refund. Not paying $15 for this.
