We have used it on different floors of our house, no problem, including from all the way upstairs to the basement.

Q: I already have this, but one speaker stopped working. Can i just buy one speaker and pair it?

Mine does that every once in awhile. Unplug from the speaker then plug back in. That fixed mine.
