Highly recommend this computer at this price
A great laptop at a great price. I was a little worried about the AMD A10 processor, but it crunches RAW photo images in Photoshop and other processor-heavy apps with ease. Only slightly less performance than my powerhouse Intel i7 desktop that cost twice as much. Noticeable difference, but not annoying. I'm not a gamer, so can't comment there. Some of the reviews said this A10 computer with the SSD didn't have a full HD display, but at least mine does. Beautiful display, although I'm sure battery life is affected by the screen set at brightest level. Setup was a breeze in less than an hour, and I have lots of quirky customized settings. I have owned Sony, Toshiba, HP, and Apple laptops before and this one beats them all with features and ease of setup. There are smaller, lighter computers with longer battery life, but at a real increase in price. The unit appears mechanically sound and rugged, but I've only had it a few days so far. I'm picky about a keyboard and this one is not as tactile as $50-100 Logitech or Microsoft add-on, but quite adequate for most purposes. Only a couple of things I would have liked better. A backlit display would be handy for low light use, and there is no indication when the power switch is turned on until the screen lights. I first pushed the switch several times in confusion. There also is no manual, just a generic fold-out pamphlet. But manuals aren't really needed any more for those of us with computer knowledge. All in all, I recommend this laptop for all the features included at this low price.

Asus x555da as11 256 GB SSD
I have to say I'm pretty impressed with this computer...although their are some downfalls...The good:I decided to go with the SSD hard drive instead of the 1tb...the ssd drive is noticeably faster in load time and the computer in general is quite snappy..the charger cord that comes with it is light weight and quite small compared to other chargers (box charger) and doesn't pull on the charging port.. the screen is pretty nice hd quality..the A10 processor which I've had in other laptops has been impressive.. there is plenty of usb ports and one hdmi port which suits me for what I do a sd card port and DVD player and overall set up was pretty easy and quick I liked the fact this computer wasn't loaded with useless apps upon arrival I've bought acers in the past that were loaded with junk..THE OK:The key board is kind of cheap and doesn't have a backlit keyboard nothing real special... the overall exterior of the computer is all plastic yet fairly rugged.. after owning other laptops I wasn't overly impressed with it's durability..The screen isn't the greatest as far as angles and viewing but doesn't bother me all that much as long as your looking at straight on.. the graphics card on this computer is ok but not awesome..Not great for gaming if that's what your intoTHE BAD:Not a ton to report here but the charger cord is fairly short probably 4 ft, the battery is my biggest complaint if it needs to be replaced it has to be done by a professional..the charger time is quick but the battery life isn't great maybe a couple hours an may be longer depending on what your doing...Overall I'm happy with this laptop it's quite fast and I would suggest the ssd drive to anyone looking for short load up times the A10 4 core processor does it's job what this computer lacks as far as durability an cheap keyboard which is why I gave it 4 stars.. is made up for by it's speed. I would suggest this computer if your looking for a decent affordable laptop you can't find another with it's specs for the price..

sufficient for basic surfing, has some drawbacks
I needed a new laptop for basic internet stuff and didn't want to spend a fortune. I decided on this laptop largely based on price and the SSD. I've used it for about a week and this is my assessment:Pros.... The price was right and the SSD is great because it doesn't build up heat and is faster. I love that it has the keypad on the right and the keyboard is comfortable. I especially love that it doesn't come with all the bloat-ware that's installed on most new laptops....clean! It's also extremely quite, hardly can tell it's on.Cons....the battery life is AWFUL... 2-3 hours tops. Also you can't order a battery...have to send it away if you need a new one. The screen leaves a lot to be desired (poor resolution and color). The entire laptop is plastic and feels flimsy, but that doesn't really matter since it will spend most it's life sitting on my table and not moved. However, I doubt it would stand up to being packed around all the time. The webcam is awful...I mean AWFUL. Finally, because it has such a small hard drive, I'll have to always use external drives to save and store my files (which is worth it to me in order to have the SSD)All in all, this laptop will do the job but if I had known about some of the shortcomings (like battery life and screen resolution), I probably would have spent a little more money for a better one. I just hope it lasts for a few years.

Hidden Gem or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the SSD
The entire time I'm using this, I'm shocked nobody has heard of this laptop. If you look for reviews of this laptop online, save a few small-time blogs, there's almost nothing available for this model. So if that's holding you back from buying this hidden gem, use this review to convince yourself. Now, this computer isn't a miracle machine. You won't be able to play the latest and greatest games at 120 fps etc. etc. However it's a great work/browsing computer, with a little low-level gaming on the side. The best thing going for this laptop is the SSD with the processor in close second. If you don't know what an SSD is watch this: [...]Essentially, what I'm trying to say is, don't be dismayed by the relatively small storage space, the benefits for everyday use on this computer more than outweigh storing all your pictures and videos somewhere else.As an example of a benefit of having an SSD, this computer starts up in less than 20 seconds. This means that updating your computer will take around 1-3 minutes every time they ask you to do it. This means there's lower chances of getting viruses, you'll have all the latest features of windows, and you won't get those nagging notifications to update eventually forcing the computer to update for 2-3 hours. Even further all your programs will run swiftly and there's a lot less "lag" when running programs. This is also majorly accredited to the processor. This is a 10 core chip. The processing speeds are incredible. If you have any professional program (AutoCAD, ANSYS, Editing Suites) that knows how to use all cores, you will see the benefit. Games are bad at using all cores, that's why this cpu won't help you there (also because there's no graphics card). This laptop has a great FULL HD 1080p screen that actually looks amazing. It's 15.6" so you'll having a great viewing experience. However, I do recommend uninstalling ASUS splendid for better colors. The size of the screen means they could fit in a full keyboard which anybody who ever has to use Excel will greatly appreciate. And a great bonus is the palm rest cooling technology. It actually works, the palm area is actually cool, not like a refrigerator but more like metal when it's not held. This makes typing amazingly comfortable, and your whole body won't heat up while typing. I'm once again surprised that this isn't talked about more, or more common in other laptops. Conclusion: This is a real gem of a laptop. The speeds of the SSD and CPU, combined with the 1080p 15.6" screen and the full keyboard makes this an amazing Laptop for a professional, or student. As long as you don't plan on gaming using this laptop, it will make all your work much easier.

Stay away, dont believe the 4 and 5 star reviews.
Garbage, absolute garbage. I dont know if I had a lemon but it couldnt even open up a web page. It would freeze and load and load and load. I re installed windows, no change. I used different browsers. For some reason the CPU would spike to 100% use , often by just opening up a tab.I know computers and have owned many, bought this for a cheap laptop. Had to return. Also, asus ties their bloated software to the trackpad drivers. It does not scroll smooth at all and you cant fix it as the asus software is the driver.I would stay away, dont know where all the 5 star reviews came from.Ended up getting an Acer swift 3. Night and day different. This laptop loads slower than old old computers. No idea why.

Underrated Laptop
I bought this laptop as a replacement for my 3 years old Acer Pentium N3550, 4GB, 500GB HDD. The Asus X555DA was at Warehouse deals for $496. It looks brand new and came in its original box.Unfortunately AMD is not well seen in laptops and are in some points less beneficial than Intel. Also here, AMD is known to have a less efficient battery management. The battery only lasts 3-4h. I only use Microsoft Word and Adobe Reader for my studies. If I go on Youtube the battery capitulates after 2h. Somewhat okay when you are not the whole day on the run. The battery life is the only reason why I removed one star. The computer boots super fast. Opening mp3 files is due to its SSD hard drive a pleasure. Working with Word files and pictures is highly enjoyable.Further, the FHD screen is great to look at. Everything is crisp and the colors are amazing. The sound was advertised as stunning. I wouldn't dare to call the SonicMaster System in this model an outstanding sound quality. Certainly good and enough loud. You better get a pair of headphones or a bluetooth speaker with it to really enjoy movies and music. The Wifi is super fast. Compared to my old laptop it is day and night. I am satisfied with the wifi and don't understand what people are complaining about. My old laptop was surely slow. But damn, the ASUS X555DA is faster than my wifes i5 u6200 with 1TB and 8 GB RAM. The SSD makes a significant difference. On paper every modern i5 beats the AMD A10. AMD's Bulldozer architecture in the A10 chip is 5 years old. However, put it to the test and you will see that you won't always notice a huge discrepancy. For a similar configuration with an i5 you pay roughly $150 more. I decided not to spend more and wanted to give AMD a try. I am not disappointed.I got a cheap deal by buying it at Warehouse deals. For $500 you won't get anything wrong with that fella here. I would prefer this laptop over any i3 with a normal HDD. If battery life is important for you, or you have a higher budget go for an i5. Unless, you won't be disappointed with the ASUS X555DA.

Once you go SSD, you never go back
•• Updated Review -- Lacking Customer Service Gave Me The Run Around ••Customer service is SO important. That's why I stopped shopping for computers on competitor sites. If I have any issue up-front, Amazon has me covered. Unfortunately, ASUS does not.Originally a 5 star review, I've updated to 3 stars after my mother in law had a classic "ASUS customer service" issue. 6 months into ownership, standard video players began frequently freezing. Naturally, she sent it to ASUS for repair. They said, "We fixed the problem." When she received it back, the problem remained. She sent it in a second time, and they agreed to replace her Laptop with one that is a slight upgrade in ALMOST every way. Sounds great, right? The problem is... they offered her a laptop WITHOUT an SSD drive. That's the whole reason I bought the X555DA model in the first place. They said, "They didn't have anything that fit her criteria in stock at the moment." That's complete bull-honkey. This is ASUS, one of the largest computer manufacturers in the world. The specs page on the model they were sending said it accommodates multiple SSD hard drive sizes. You mean to tell me they couldn't, at her request, replace a 1TB hdd with ANY SIZED SSD? Heck, I'd be happy with a 128gb SSD. This is a classic hardball business maneuver meant to bull over the average consumer. It's a joke. It's a shame because I still believe that, with the specs in mind, the X5555DA is a great value for the money, but ASUS's customer support makes it difficult to recommend. My friends (IT professionals) have talked about ASUS's problems over the years, and now I've experienced it first hand. I can no longer recommend ASUS as a brand to rely on.•• Original Review ••My intent with this review is to inform the average consumer as to why this is a great budget laptop. It's excellent for students, professionals, or everyday users alike. I personally bought it for $549 on sale. Dollar for dollar, I definitely feel it's a 5 star product. For the average user watching movies, sending e-mails, word processing, doing schoolwork, etc... this is an awesome purchase. The negative criticisms from other Amazon reviewers about this laptop are 1. not very detailed, and 2. generic complaints about speed and the cheapness of the keyboard. I'll refute them later in the review.•• A note on price ••The price drops quite frequently, so keep your eye on it. A great way to do this is to use camelcamelcamel. It's a website that you can use to track amazon.ca prices. Google it if you're interested. If you use Google Chrome, and you're computer savvy, I recommend the Keepa extension.•• Why SSD instead of HDD? Why should I care? ••HDD: An HDD is a Hard Drive Disk. They've been around for a long time, and they consist of moving mechanical parts. If one of these parts breaks down, your hard drive goes kaputz. Because they have moving parts in them, they are significantly slower than their SSD counterparts.SSD: An SSD is a Solid State Drive. It has no mechanical parts. Think of it as being similar to a giant thumb drive. It is SIGNIFICANTLY faster but typically smaller in total capacity. Using an HDD vs an SSD is night and day. It's like the difference between regular television and HD.•• Why I bought this laptop, and why you may want to ••I build my own computers. Occasionally, a family or friend uses me to update their ragged systems. My stepmother wanted a new laptop because hers was ready for an Old Yeller style departure. I searched high and low to find her something under $1000 that we'd both be happy with. A few years back, I bought several laptops for my wife, and friends and family, and they all had SSD drives. In 2016, it was suddenly difficult to find a reasonably priced laptop with an SSD. Everything was like, "Look, we have a 1TB Hard Drive! It's real big and slow and stuff!" I mean, that's great... but once you go SSD, you never go back. The speed differential is just awesome. It's soooo much faster than a standard hard drive (HDD). Yes, you lose a significant amount of hard drive space, but again, this is 2016. It's so easy to buy a thumb drive or an external hard drive or just upload data using cloud technology. A massive hard drive is archaic. For gaming, it's a different story; I break it down in a later section.•• A note on some System Specifications ••I won't list all the specs since you can see that on your own, but I'll highlight some info.Quadcore A10-8700P (1.8ghz) ~ A decent quad core process that can be unlocked to hit 3.2ghz if you require. (Read next section if you're interested)8GB Ram ~ I had 8GB of ram in my computer until last year. It's going to be perfectly fine for average gaming, which I'd say is completely doable but isn't a strong suit of this laptop anyhow.256gb SSD ~ blazing fast, but keep in mind, the system specs don't factor in the size of Windows 10. You're actually getting about 240gb of functional hard drive space, which is totally fine nowadays.1 HDMI Port ~ I love HDMI capable laptops. This means, you can buy an HDMI cable and plug it directly into your TV. Then you can use your television to run your laptop. For $550, you don't just get a solid, portable laptop, you get a media computer that you can use to watch Netflix and other stuff. Cool and simple.Windows 10 ~ Windows 10 is basically Windows 8 but faster and less irritating. This laptop packs enough power to run it smoothly and efficiently.•• Getting the most out of your processor ••If you want to get more power out of your processor, you can unlock the turbo to 3.2ghz. What this means is, you can amp up the CPU to run faster if you so desire to a preset limit. If you are gaming on this computer, I highly recommend doing so. There's little reason not to. If you're just using it for daily use (e-mail, internet, watching videos, using a few programs here and there), you likely won't need to bother. BUT, if for whatever reason you want to, just google how to overclock A10-8700P or how to set A10-8700P into turbo. You could also overclock it manually, but if you know how to do that, you wouldn't be reading this :)•• Aesthetics and Weight ••Laptop designs haven't changed much in the past few years. It's sharp, simple, and relatively thin. Weighing 3kg, it's neither heavy nor light. At 15 inches, it's easy to toss in a backpack, and it's big enough to watch movies on (although I recommend doing it solo). The outside feels smooth, but I don't really care. I don't often find myself creepily rubbing my face against my laptop. Again, for the price, it's similar to other laptops in the bracket.•• Resolution and Viewing Angles ••In spite of the manufacturer listing this as 1366 by 768 in the description, this is a 1920x1080 resolution laptop. It has been confirmed by multiple reviewers as well as my own two eyes. This means things like movies can be displayed in 1080p. It also means you have a guaranteed sharpness to your visual experience. It's nice, and it's in keeping with industry standards. The viewing angles are "okay." What this means is if you are sitting straight, looking straight at your monitor, you'll be happy with your viewing experience. However, if you are off to the side, watching a movie with friends, this isn't the best. You'll get moderate screen glare or color discrepancies. It's doable, just not preferable. I'd argue that if you're buying this to watch movies with friends, though, a 15 inch screen isn't the best idea. This is a personal laptop for a reason.•• Battery and Charger Cord Length ••The battery life is pretty average for its class. It lasts about 3-4 hours with mixed use: movie watching, internet, etc. It won't last long while gaming, but any gamer knows you have to plug in. The cord length is around 4-5 ft, not the longest, but it's typical. As long as you're not plugging in across the room, you're fine.•• Audio and Keyboard quality ••The audio is typical of cheaper laptops. It sounds tinny and distorts once its get to a certain higher level. However, for daily use or moderately loud music, it's going to be just fine. They sound similar to just about any model on the market, no major issues. If you want better speakers on a laptop, be prepared to pay ungodly sums of money or simply buy an additional set of speakers to carry around. Both are fine options.Honestly, the people complaining about the keys being stiff... You're precious. The keyboard is absolutely fine. The keys aren't too stiff, but they won't massage your fingers. They're not the Cadillac of keys, but they're not difficult to press. If my stepmother and HER mother can use them without issue, so can you. Because this is 15 inches, you also get the numpad on the right side of the keyboard, which isn't always integrated into smaller laptops. If you're using numbers constantly, it's a nice thing to have.•• To Game or not to Game? ••This isn't the best laptop for pure gaming, but it's a reasonable budget option. Here's my argument. Historically, laptops aren't as good for running games as a desktop computer. That's not conjecture; it's a fact. With a desktop, you can upgrade components easily when you need to, keeping up with the pace of technology. Laptops can't do that, so you end up paying a premium to match desktop technology. Gaming laptops, in particular, cost significantly more than this laptop (think minimum $1000+ for a mediocre unit). Regarding the ASUS X555DA specifically, several people on Amazon.com have reported it running newer games such as Battlefield 4, Metal Gear Solid V, and others on medium. That's not bad. It's a middle of the road, budget gaming laptop that can perform most basic functions at a solid pace.Sounds good to me. What's the problem, then? A functional 240 gigabytes (gb) of space isn't a lot for games in 2016. Big budget games require anywhere from 20-50gb of space. So you can only install a few larger titles at a time. The good news is, they'll load relatively fast because you have an SSD and 8 gigs of ram. Still, it's a consideration to be made. If you're the kind of person who only installs a couple of big games at a time and has no problem deleting them, then you'll be fine. If you just wanna throw everything and the kitchen sink on it, then you'll run into trouble.•• Conclusion ••As if you didn't know by now, I consider this laptop to be a great value. I will update if the user ever has any major hardware issues. If you have any questions about its performance, please leave a comment. Thanks for reading. May you find the droids you are looking for.

Best laptop for vampires
Not a bad laptop on first use, but after a year, it has started crashing randomly--not even BSODing, just... black. Nothing. And when it starts back up, unless I'm very lucky and Mercury is in retrograde or some other voodoo nonsense, things are janky. Apps are slow to run, the lag is ridiculous, videos won't play, sound comes out like you're watching your grandma's first time: awkward, jarring and something you wish you hadn't experienced in the first place. Forget trying to load any sort of game--this laptop barely has the capability to play old school snake without needing to validate the drives. For everyday use that involves browsing the internet? Sure. Good laptop. For anything more involved? Yeaaaaaahno.
