Cute Animal Mystery Story!
Grades 3-6This is a well written series mystery novel for kids. This particular book is number two in the series and the focus is on a badly treated zorse (half zebra, half horse) and it's missing fly mask. The three kids in the book (the main characters) are believable and modern enough for today's kids. Leo builds robots, Becca dresses fashionably and Kelsey loves her spy gear and kittens! They also have problems at home: Becca's parents are divorced, Leo's dad has moved out of their house and Kelsey's dad is an unemployed baker. There are also enough loose ends in the book, such as crazy Sunflower Mary and the mysterious broken grandfather clock, to keep a reader interested in reading the next book in the series to see how it turns out. I think the book is more geared to girls because the title is in a girly, hot pink font with black cats crawling on it and there is a lot of focus on the Sparklers, a popular group of girls who all wear a sparkly moon shaped necklace. However animal loving boys and girls would enjoy the story!

What is a Zorse?
This is the second book in the series THE CURIOUS CAT SPY CLUB. My granddaughter loved book #1 (so did I!) but I can't wait to hear what she says about this book, and I am ordering her her own copy from amazon pronto! It is even more exciting than the first book. A zorse is a cross between a zebra and a horse, an unusual animal to star in this book. The Zorse from book #1, that brought Becca, Kelsey, and Leo together to meet and form the Curious Cat Spy Club, is front and center in this book. Becca has always hoped that no one would ever show up to claim Zed, the zorse, and since no one ever answered their ads, she thinks they're safe. But along comes Caleb Hunter, a stranger from Nevada, who claims that the zorse belongs to his ill grandmother. He seems more interested in the torn fly mask that Zed was wearing when he came to Becca's family's animal sanctuary, though. And Zed doesn't seem at all happy to go off with the man. Zed had been cruelly beaten and still bears the scars. Was this man responsible for beating Zed? He has smooth answers but The Spy Club is suspicious and goes into action! Exciting scenes follow. The final dramatic scene, when Kelsey attempts a daring rescue that puts her in extreme danger, will thrill any reader, young and old! If you love animal stories, mysteries, and thrilling scenes, this book and series is for you!

I really enjoyed the second book of this series - while the mystery is great, it's the other plot lines that hit me hard. Kelsey wants to make a good impression on people - so much so that she's willing to imitate them to become friends. But I love how Becca told her the truth about her sparkle friends. I love how the three friends are different and yet care so much about the same things. My heart broke for Zed. After reading this story, I wanted to give my puppy a huge hug and hold him tight. It was sad and yet hopeful. The danger scenes were intense. I'm eager to see what happens next to this group of friends and animal lovers.A fun tween mystery that blends friendship, a love for animals, and curious minds.
