Coast® G23 120 Lumen Alkaline Dual Power Magnetic LED Penlight with C.O.B. Area Light

Having the magnetic hold the light is a game changer! Super bright for the side light, not as bright for the main flashlight. Definitely worth the price & size is great!

This is a very nice penlight. The "COB" area light on the side of the penlight is very bright in both white and red but I'd like the lumens of the flashlight portion to be greater. I purchased this for my grandfather but he returned it to me saying that the push-button on the end of the flashlight was too difficult to push with his elderly hands (his words). I have to admit, it does take a bit of a 'determined' press to click it. However, I should also add that once the button is depressed and the flashlight is on, it's easy to move through the different light options with a soft press on the button -- but still needs the strong press to turn off.

Overall, not a bad flashlight. It has a solid feel and the switch seems to work well; however, time will tell. Both the inspection beam and the COB (chip on board) area light are bright and the night vision (red) light is a nice addition. As stated, it is storm proof but not waterproof. In fact, the instructions that accompany the light state "Never submerge your G23 Flashlight in any liquid", i.e., do not drop it in a puddle. I would prefer waterproof but you cannot have everything. Given that I like to keep lights in our "Go Bags", I prefer dual power and the G23 does use AAA disposable alkaline batteries and a rechargeable battery (note singular rather than plural on the latter). This is disappointing. The seller is very clear that the light is shipped with AAA alkaline batteries whereas most of my dual-power lights are shipped with rechargeable batteries - the G23 is not shipped with a rechargeable. Moreover, the rechargeable battery is a proprietary, highly specialized battery (scroll down to about the top 1/3 of the page to the "From the Manufacturer" section) and it is expensive. Purchasing this battery from Coast will more than double the cost of this flashlight. And, the instructions clearly state "Do not use an aftermarket rechargeable battery to power your G23", i.e., if you want dual power, be prepared to double the cost of your flashlight. Note: For at least some period, Coast, on their website, did sell the G23 "bundled" with the proprietary ZX110 rechargeable battery list priced for $39.99 but reduced to $19.99. This would have been a good deal but unfortunately it is now "sold out".

Very handy flashlight that I use daily at work. Just be aware that when the battery starts running low, the red-bar-light will not work properly until you replace/ recharge the batteries. Not sure if that's a "feature" or a nuisance, but it is something to keep in mind. Still an awesome little flashlight though. Would totally recommend.

The primary lamp makes good shadows making it great for inspections, area light is a bonus for emergencies, main light could be brighter, has reversible magnet pocket clip.

In my field, a good flashlight is a must-have. This product looked great and up to the task of home inspections of HVAC/Plumbing, but after only a month and a half, it became defective and will not turn on anymore. For the first few weeks of ownership, this light especially shines with the side-mounted floodlight that really illuminates an area, but the main light lacks focus and is not all that bright. Red COB also went out pretty much a month after I got it. The clip-attached magnet is also pretty shoddily made, only being held on by a rubber sleeve, that with daily use, will quickly wear off and remove half the reason why I pretty much even bought the thing: to attach on a metal wall and flood the workspace.

Bought this to attach to my phone molle holster for work. I work at a warehouse and have to sometimes change out machine parts or look under them. This is handy and bright enough to carry around for simple things. I can’t really speak to the true quality as I use it only a couple times a week for small amounts of time, but it works well for my purposes.

Was a nice light but didn't last. The plastic LED on the outside broke and the button started acting weird. I thought a Coast would last longer..... They do have great customer support and did honor the warranty though.

Compacta y con una luminosidad excelente para hacer inspecciones en tableros de circuitos o cualquier necesidad que se tenga, y las luz led que tres por un costado esta más que sobrada para iluminar un área mayor

Jahrelang war ich nach einer guten Lampe am suchen. Was soll man sagen, es erfüllt seinen Zweck. Ich bin Soldat, und brauchte eine Lampe die den Ansprüchen entspricht. Rotlicht, mit Guter Weißlicht lampe, passend in der beintasche. Robust, Wetterfest, und nimmt Batterien und nicht diesen müll von USB ladefunktion, was man im Gelände halt einfach nicht dabei hat. Die magnet Funktion sehr Praktisch, sehr Stabil bei Metall oberflächen. Und das für einen wirklich guten Preis. Kann es meinen Kameraden bedenkenlos empfehlen.

Lanterna muito leve e patética de usar. Cabe no Bolso da calça e não atrapalha nenhum movimento. O imã que fica na presilha é bem forte e mantém a lanterna em posição. A luz lateral da barra de led é muito forte e ilumina uma área bem significativa. E a luz vermelha também é bem forte. A luz padrão é bem coçada e ajuda a ver detalhes e ligares de difícil acesso. A construção da lanterna é bem sólida, feita de alumínio e com pintura bem resistente. Quando a minha lanterna chegou as pilhas que acompanham o kit estavam descarregadas. Seria bom se o vendedor conseguisse disponibilizar as baterias recarregáveis da marca para essa lanterna. Ai o kit seria excelente. No geral estou bem satisfeito com o produto.

everything was great including my expectations but within the first few days it's managed to become faulty.. occasionally it will work as normal but usually it works at seemingly 1/2 - 2/3 capacity? and will not stay on the red selection it will immediately flicker to the next option...:( I really wanted to give this 5 was very sad and still am I've gone back to my old torch

I purchased this light to replace a G20 that didn't survive a wash cycle in my coveralls. I had been quite happy with the inspection beam on the G20, but often needed something brighter to light up a larger area. The G23 is the ideal combination of inspection beam for close up work and C.O.B. light for general area lighting. I like the magnet attached to the pocket clip as it allows for placement of the switch on the end cap rather than the side, as in most lights that have a magnet on the end cap. I have found the magnet to be strong enough for most applications and doesn't add a lot of bulk to the clip. The cob module does stick up from the body of the light and only time will tell how that fairs in daily use. I have used the light for a week now and haven't noticed any issues with the module location, but do wonder if the lens will be more susceptible to damage from dropping or rubbing on rough surfaces. I did purchase Panasonic rechargeable AAA batteries to use with the light but at this point haven't determined battery life. Overall I'm happy with the performance of this light and would recommend.
