Amazing Book!!
I changed a little while ago to a new violin teacher & she recommended this book. My God, am I glad she did!! This book has transformed my violin playing even after just 2 weeks of using it. My intonation is the biggest improvement I am so am grateful for! Secondly, my left hand finger technique has become SO much more confident & accurate. Up until now, my left hand was always very tense & awkward-looking but this book has helped so much. I kept trying & failing before I started to be able to play these properly but what I learnt was that you can't play these as you're supposed to unless you are playing them properly. So the exercises quite literally remold your hand, if you keep at them, and as you start getting them right. And once you start getting an exercise you wonder why you found it so hard to begin with...until you move onto the next one & you have to start upgrading your left hand all over again! Consistently practice & get a few of these exercises under your belt. Then play a piece of your choice - you'll hear a significant improvement quite quickly!

Focus is mainly on the left hand, some bowing exercises at the end
I've been a fan of Sevcik for years! I would recommend this for the serious student. This book has tons for the left hand - finger patterns on one string, broken thirds, double stops, chromatic scales, exercises with lots of accidentals, extensions, various broken chords, and others - and helps understand various hand shapes. Almost all in 1st position. There are also bowing exercises but I would suggest getting his Opus 3 if that's your goal. I would recommend this for the beginner as well as the advanced student, or a professional wanting to brush up on the basics. There is a preface at the beginning, and an explanation of all the symbols in German, English, French and Italian. Soft cover, 53 pages, and sits on the stand comfortably when open.
