This was the most romantic gift I ever got my husband...peaceful rest without waking to kids jumping around. They literally cannot get through the door now. WE LOVE IT. This slim night latch is used with inside-swinging entry doors. When engaged it securely blocks the door from opening. To disengage it, you pull the hinged part away from the door jamb in a motion parallel to the surface of the door, and then swing it out of the way! It comes with long screws so that it becomes secured to wooden wall framing beyond the door jamb itself. This is for a quite different purpose than door chains etc., which are used to securely open a door a few inches so that you can verify who is at the door, or exchange a few words. This device is to keep the door very securely shut. We feel much safer now that this is installed!
