Book for beginners, not novices
This is a book for beginners, not novices. I tried reading it before ever taking a watch apart and didn't understand a blessed thing in the bike. I used YouTube to struggle through a couple mechanical watch repairs (disassemble, replace broken parts, lubricate, reassemble) and now this book is a GEM. Great history and theory to provide a beginner with deeper knowledge to understand the watches they are working on, taking the beginner to the intermediate level of horology.

Not an Idiots guide
First off this is a Primer / Textbook. If you are seriously interested in time peices as a hobby and you are thinking that you will pick this up as some light reading be warned it is dense and designed to be a begining text for someone studying to be a horologist (watch / clock repair expert) Pros: -Presents interesting information about the origin of time and its purpose in our lives. -Detailed pictures -if you are just starting out you can pick it up and won't be absolutely lost as to what they are talking about, if this were a textboox for a college course, the course would something like "Intro to Time Peices" and not "The psycology of the inter molecular study of the perpetual motion clock" Cons: -I was personally looking for something more casual such as "an idiots guide to" or a breif how to manual, and this is not written in that way. While this is a dense read i would still recomend picking it up if you are like me (wishing you know more about everything)

Good book for beginners
I bought this book after I got lost reading Practical Watch Repairing. This book really is good for beginners. While you can get lost in the technical explanations, the book really does approach repair from a beginner's level. Hell, the book starts with a history of time keeping...starting with the rotation and orbit of the earth. So this book really does start from the beginning. I like this book also because it has a LOT of well drawn diagrams with lots of descriptions. You can know the main parts of a watch by looking at two diagrams and have it memorized in twenty minutes. With the help of memorizing those diagrams and understanding them, I have actually successfully theorized and did a couple of easy/simple fixes on eBay purchases that weren't running based on the item descriptions! The book has large print which is nice and everything is explained in a easily comprehensible fashion. The Practical Watch Repairing book was definitely more difficult to comprehend. Get this book, it's a good one.

A good book, but title misleading
I recently bought this book because I am just getting into the hobby of watch repair. I figured a book entitled "watch repair for beginners" would be a good place to start. Upon receiving the book, I have discovered almost 2/3rds of it is about the abstract concept of time and clocks. That last 1/3 is about watches, but is very technical. I wouldn't recommend this for beginners. I gave it three stars because while the book is well written and informative, a book entitled "watch repair for beginners" should mostly be about watches and basic information.

Not for someone that knows about watches functions.
Not what I expected. Didn't show much watch repair. Mostly talked about parts.
