Excellent Baking Book with some unique recipes
I am an avid baker and am always looking for items that may have a positive twist and that is slightly outside of the norm. I went ahead and purchased this book primarily from hearing positive remarks about the author. I am very pleased with the recipes and overall quality of the book. One specific thing I like is that in most of her recipes where brown sugar is required she recommends muscovado. That alone results in a deeper, richer, more complex, flavor that stands alone and is not as sweet as traditional sugars. So if you want your baked goods to stand out in a positive way and be slightly different than most other bakers, then purchasing her book will serve you well.

Almost impossible to choose just one!
My long-awaited copy of Rose Levy Beranbaum's Cookie Bible finally arrived this morning and wow, was it ever worth the wait! Inside you'll find a plethora of innovative, slightly posh versions of both old favorites and new discoveries, so many that it is almost impossible to choose. With recipes grouped by shaping method, I was delighted to see that this book will be every bit as useful in the UK as it will be here in the US. Each recipe features both metric and US standard measurements, nicely laid out in a chart. The recipes are detailed and often feature variations, baking and storage hints. Baking time, temperature and pan sizes are clearly laid out at the beginning of each recipe. Most of the recipes produce 2-3 dozen cookies, something I found particularly welcome when it came to the Moravian Spice Crisps. (The recipe that I've used for decades makes these particular cookies by the hundreds!)You'll find old favorites like Chocolate Chip Cookies (Beranbaum's are extra special, made with browned butter for depth of flavor) and Mom's Coconut Snowball Kisses - everyone's favorite coconut macaroon made with sweetened condensed milk but taken up a whole bunch of notches with Beranbaum's special touch, fresh coconut. (I have a batch of those in the oven but I admit that I cheated. I regularly stock "fresh grated" coconut from the frozen section at my Asian grocery.).You'll also find dozens of less familiar cookies - various flavors of financiers (also sometimes known as friends), madeleines, and biscotti, including Maida Heatter's famous Palm Beach Biscotti in both Maida's original version and Beranbaum's less sweet variety along with a wealth of bar cookies, a few special candy recipes and a smattering of recipes for things like lemon curd, ganache and even lekvar.Grandma's $0.02 - If you're a cookie baker you will adore this book! Highly recommended.

A work of art
I love READING cookbooks and baking books and dreaming about what I will make, and then making things from said cookbook. I am so excited upon receiving the Cookie Bible to make just about everything! The stories about a cookie's origin, the explicit instructions, the photos all point to such exquisite care and master of detail. This book is not only a baking book; it is a work of art. Thank you Rose and Woody! Love to you!

Simply: Amazing
This book doesn’t disappoint. This book comes from Rose’s heart, has detailed instructions which are easy to follow, most of the recipes have beautiful and big photos. The thing that I love the most about her books is that the ingredients are given in weight (grams) and in volume (cups, spoons and teaspoons). Don’t be discouraged reading the 1 or 2 stars reviews of this book, I assure you those people don’t know what they are talking about. So, do yourself a favor and buy this book. You will be happy you did, there are many recipes that will become your family’s favorites. FYI, I call her Rose, because she is like my aunt who many years ago taught me through her book “The bread bible” how to bake my first and perfect scone.

It is a bible after all
My daughter loves to bake cookies. I got this for her birthday and she liked this book a lot. She made snicker doodle cookies using recipe and instructions. If you are into baking this book is good and will teach you a lot.

Good but repetitive from her other books
As usual, Ms. Levy Beranbaum’s work is well researched and clearly presented. However, given the amount of time the public has been waiting on this much anticipated book, I’m a bit disappointed. It’s really quite repetitive, with many of her past recipes revisited and re-published here. Also, a lot of recipes have a very similar feel to each other - I would venture a good half of the recipes contain an emphasis on nuts of some kind - hazelnut, almond, walnut, pecan, pistachio. If you have anyone in your family who has nut allergies, this book definitely isn’t for you.Lastly, the yield on these recipes is wildly variable, with a lot of recipes producing much smaller batches than you may be accustomed to. Some recipes yield only 10 cookies.Overall, it feels a lot like her other previously published stuff on cookies - heavily European influence (French, German, etc) and nut-heavy.I was expecting a lot more new material with a wider breadth of both technique and flavors for a “cookie bible” from such a respected author.
