Q: how much weight can this hold?

this stuff is more decorative and not very strong. my guess would be 5# max. i wouldn't use it for a strength application.

Q: Can this be used for cat scratching post? My cat is addicted to scratching table legs. Is this the same rope that's used for scratching?

I feel it would be a little thin for that. I am using it on a pole with a cat toy at the end and it holds up well buy you would almost need to twist 2 lengths together then wrap for a cat scratcher.

Q: Can this be stapled with a staple gun to a board and hang on a wall?

That depends on how big the board. If you are using a staple to hang the board then I would say yes as the staple will give before the jute does.
