There is a misconception. This is an espresso maker, not a coffee pot. You’re supposed to use espresso ground coffee. It makes six espresso shots or you can make 2 cups of espresso based coffee. Or if you like 1 cup extremely strong coffee. I typically pour half of the espresso into a mug add my milk and boiling water to make 1 cup of coffee. Therefore, I have one more 1/2 to use for a 2nd cup of coffee. The biggest mistake I made with these pots is using regular ground coffee. It comes out very weak. And it only makes one cup.

Yes, it takes about 3-4 minutes to heat the water and 10-15 seconds for the extraction process, depending on the coarseness of the coffee powder. After 5 minutes, you will hear a "tick" from the heater at the bottom, indicating that the heater has automatically cut off and the moka pot will no longer be heated. However, the indicator light will not go off immediately, because it is temperature-controlled, it will wait until the temperature drops to a level that will not burn your skin, about 5 minutes, during which time the heater stops working, you don't have to worry about it consuming too much power.

I do not see a UL label, that said you are only going to use it once until it cools plus it literally takes about 3 minutes to make your coffee, incredibly fast. You could make toast and have them both ready at once. After I am done I unplug it. I really love it especially since I love strong coffee/espresso. One piece of advice, when pouring I suggest holding lid open OR pour very slowly or it will be all over
