WITH ENGINE OFF READS BATTERY ACCURATELY. WITH ENGINE ON IT SHOWS BOTH BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR CONDITION.

Does it come with batteries included?

It powers up off the battery being tested. No batteries needed.

Why didnt mine come with directions

I don't know why. But just connect to battery, read the voltage, go to the charts which tell % charge as a function of voltage-then you know status of the battery. I purchased a second one, put on long wires so I can see if my alternator is charging as I go down the road. Unbelievably accurate for the cheap price. Strong recommendation Jay

With my engine running I get voltage indicated and lights on the battery side of the unit. No lights on the alternator side. Is the unit defective?

I'm not a mechanic, but all I do is first I check the voltage of the battery without having started the vehicle. Next I start the engine and check the battery voltage while the engine is idling. While the engine is idling I usually show about 13.8 volts on the tester.

Evcellent! Recommend.

Perfect for what it can do! Neighbor's car needed a jump start. Later in the day we checked the battery with this and it showed the battery wasn't in good condition. Accurate. Also tested my car's battery and charging system. Worked as expected.I have two jump-start packs because I'm on the road a lot. Each pack will include one of these simple analyzers.

Cheaply made but it’s a cheap item!!

Good product!!! I changed my alternator on my 2009 Scion tc, I took it to autozone and they said my charging system wasn’t charging right after putting it in, I’m thinking that my alternator is messed up but I think it was their machine. I bought this lil bad boy, it is cheaply made, but it’s a cheap item. Go cry at Home Depot with their $100 ones or there are better ones. It powered right up and read everything accurately which is what it’s designed to do testing the voltage and showing me everything was fine. Amazing item!!!
