The Illustrated Ramayana Hardcover

This beautiful book is a the perfect accompaniment to a standard Ramayana book. DK has faithfully followed the storyline to places, regions and publications using well researched references that point out nuances in the story. I am an avid mythology reader and this book provided more insight, background information on the key characters in the story. The pages are glossy and the pictures are bright and perfect. I got this on a deal and the book is well worth the amount charged! I've been showing it off incessantly to all my Indian friends and everyone has been awed! Well done!!!

Beautiful selection of pictures/photos

As with many DK editions, this is a great shortened summary of the Ramayana. All the major characters and story lines are touched. The book is lavishly illustrated with great artwork and many asides that link the story to larger topics on art, religion, culture, history, and the many versions of the story. This edition has a great glossary and index. As a paper book, I would have given it five stars.However, I did buy the digital edition, and as a digital book it fails. There is a disclaimer that some digital features (such as formatting, font selection and sizing) have been disabled to preserve the layout. However, text is not highlightable or selectable. The index does not link to various pages in the book. And items cannot be marked for note taking or other annotations. I hope a future edition can correct these deficiencies or can be addressed in other books.So hence I give 3 stars. Excellent as a paper book. Poor as a digital book.
