8-Inch High Excursion Black Steel Mesh Subwoofer Grille

I have an older Rockford Fosgate P3 12 inch sub getting installed in the trunk of my sedan. Wanted some protection against other items that I may need to put in there. The grill doesn’t flex and should be able to withstand any accidental bumps. This grill fit almost perfectly. There was a slight flex in the mounting tabs so the holes lined up with the sub mounting holes. It also left clearance for the RockFord Fosgate trim ring and its mounting holes which are offset from the sub mounting holes. The plastic trim ring that came with the grill is pretty sturdy and would look good but since I had the metal OEM one I opted for that instead. There is about half an inch of clearance between the grill and the sub surround which should be enough when it’s operating.

Perfect for my application. Very sturdy / well built. To customize it a bit and hide some flaws I created behind the grill. I spray glued some the black fabric to the back side of it. Worked perfectly to hide my errors and looks fantastic.

I can't believe for 10 years I've been using some waffle grills that were basically flush to my speaker. I was listening to them a couple days ago and realized one of the grills was pushed in and touching the speaker. Needless to say the rattle was horrible! Immediately said no more will I use these, just being cheap. Did a couple searches and came across these. Ok, these things look great! Grill is sturdy hard. The issue I noticed and came up in another review is the fitment is super tight. You'd almost need to stretch the grill over the speaker but that's impossible. I'm using pioneer championship 12s. After 2minutes I realized there was no way the speaker grill and the shroud would line up to speaker itself to screw in. Easy work around was to just twist the grill and do not line the holes up....instead sit the grills under the shroud and tighten the shroud to the speak mounts. The grill automatically fights in place, No movement at all and functions great!! Excursion capacity on these is definitely 2inches. I won't even be close to that. The grill mesh is also very good that now I can throw tool and stuff in the back with absolutely no worry of the grill flexing into the speaker. Also these come with some hex screws that to me look good for finish but I scrapped them and used some wood screws nice and tight.

Didn't fit over a 8 inch Kicker Comp C, but did on the 10 inch. When they fit, they are strong, look great, and are easy to install. Make sure they will work with your subs and you will be pleased. I have them on two Kicker Comp C 10" and they are awesome.

Comes with mounting screws. The grill is made of fairly thick steel. It will NOT bend without a lot of force, like a hammer. I believe someone could stand on it without bending it. Excellent grill. Unfortunately, my CT Sounds Hydro sub has irregular mounting holes so this grill is too small. But I believe it would fit anyone else's sub. CT Sounds just doesn't care about standards.

This is the second one of these ive purchased. It offers, by far, the most protection for rear facing subs in the trunk area. Much better than the old grate style with 4 clamps that rattle loose. Well worth the investment!

So I purchased these for my son's 12s he got for Christmas. He plays sports so I thought metal grills would be better with backpacks and gear going in the trunk. I was hoping to just unscrew the speakers and use the same holes. The speakers utilize a larger screw so was going to have to drill. I placed the grill and was adjusting to see where the best place to screw them down would be. I noticed that the ring was right against the foam surround. I made sure that it was evenly spaced but no matter what I did it rubbed the foam. I was afraid that with vibration it would eventually wear a hole in the speaker. When I was packing the grills back into the box, I noticed that there were burrs where the metal was near the mounting areas. I feel if these were installed and the woofers turned up, they could damage the subwoofers.

I really wanted this product to work but no mater what I tried it was a fail. First mounted as you should and the surround of the speaker hits the grill on a Sundown10” SA Classic. Also no way can you slip just the grill under the rubber outer ring and not use their outer plastic ring, it’s way to close to speaker. I then tried using various spacers to get the grill with ring further from the speaker and eventually found enough distance. But then found another problem, it blocks the sound. My sub just sounded bad even after I got clearance. In pictures you can see mounted regular as it comes I had about 10mm of clearance to the surround at the closest point. I had to space it out much further than that to get it from hitting. See video you can hear a pop sound that’s the speaker hitting the grill. Also the included screws are not ideal. They are longer as needed but they require a 3mm hex head, this is too small, I can see them striping easily. This grill is intended for a high excursion speaker. If you have one then you’re more likely to want to make sure it’s mounted and screwed down tight the screws provided just are not great. Ultimately I was really determined to make this work and after finding a way to get enough clearance, I was greatly disappointed that it made my sub sound bad. The sound waves have to be reflecting back off it. I’m running the full RMS at 2 ohms to this speaker it pounds for a 10” in a smaller vented box. Guess my quest to find something continuous.
