Public Enemy's 20 year career has had a monumental impact on the music world. Robert Patton-Spruill's Welcome to the Terrordome chronicles their legacy, their history and what icons of the music world say about their influence. Two decades later, the most controversial rap group of the 80s is all grown up... and still touring.

Black Steel...
1 of rap music's premiere groups is in the Terrordome. Public Enemy has the voice and sound of an era that has since grown to be 40 or 50 years old. The most interesting dynamic here is their treatment of the lead MC and the "court jester". During the time of crack, the serious lyrics of Chuck D. dominated airwaves. Their videos were haunting and in your face. Flava Flav was a departure from that serious feel at the time. He was carefully woven throughout the songs. I always wondered how his antics could be a part of an anti-drug movement. Was he really less comedic behind closed doors? Was it all a clown act? This documentary addresses those thoughts.

Good and fun documentary
I loved this documentary about one of my favorite bands of all time. No slick production here and some issues with some of the sound but a wonderful inside visit with the members of PE. I feel like I just spent the afternoon goofing around with them. Fun commentary by other musicians like Henry Rollins. I recommend this if you love Public Enemy.

Welcome to the Boredom Zone!
Low quality documentary. Does not cover enough of the early days. Is not a proper carer spanning documentary. Missing tons of live footage, TV shows, interviews, music videos and other elements that make music documentaries so great when they are properly edited together. Also has audio mixing issues. Some interviews are mixed too loud and followed by interviews that are mixed too quiet. The interviews also do not seem to be mixed to match the volume of the performance footage, which also varies slightly in volume. This is far too dull a video for a group as exciting as Public Enemy. One of the greatest, if not THE greatest group in the history of Hip-Hop deserves better. Much better.

Interesting approach to an interesting group
I come at this from the perspective of a music enthusiast with only a passing knowledge of PE. I watched it via a streaming service, so I cannot comment on any DVD extras or packaging.Pros:Not the traditional chronological biopic -- spent a chunk of time on each individual member of the group, including interviews where they talked about each other, and time on each important track they have released. Not a whole lot of other "history" covered.Lots of insight into the integrity, motivations, and inner workings of PE, including the unusual dynamics/roles of the members. Would you expect them to compare themselves to the Rolling Stones?Explains the multi-instrument musician/clown Flavor Flav and his importance to the group.Features generous amounts of live performance footage.Candid footage in airports and such showing them unguarded.Cons:Live performance footage largely taken from one SXSW festival show.Chronological format would have helped me (not a true fan) to better understand the band's history. Most of the interview clips with other artists were done with just four artists total. Oddly, when discussing a self-described revolutionary all-black hip hop group, three of those four peers were white.More new footage than old.

A must for any PE fan!
If you're a PE fan then don't hesitate in buying this. As with all PE related media it's great value and you get a lot for your money, plenty of extras.
