How to Create Your Own Jewelry Line: Design – Production – Finance – Marketing & More Review: A Must Read for Artists with a Jewelry Line or those that want one..... - I am more than half way thru this book and I would highly recommend it! It is easy to read and comprehend, she gives you good directions on anything she feel you should be utilizing. I have a shop and it did great the first years, but this year I have lost interest and not been keeping it up, plus I've had surgery. Decided to buy this book on desertcart and try it while rehabbing. Great idea, I've taken notes for items I need to work on and she's opened my eyes to what I am doing right and what I'm doing that is not necessary for a few reasons. If you have a shop, if you don't have one and you're just starting out, this is the book for you! No matter where you are in your creativity, this will help you, she makes a very clear path to follow and tells you why. A must read for anyone going into or already into having a jewelry line. Review: Great read, good things to consider - This is a great book that I think could really help with starting your own jewelry business. Shapiro gives excellent suggestions and lessons-learned from her hardships navigating the jewelry industry. Her business is thriving and she seems approachable to ask any questions or get mentorship from. I would highly recommend this book. One thing I think this book should not try to do is provide basic jewelry skills. The book briefly delves into this, and I think it is a waste of space for the book, which should focus mainly on the business aspects or shortcuts. I feel that the books audience should be those already learning or already learned in basic jewelry techniques.

I am not big on writing reviews, I’m going to work on that. I always read several reviews before buying items. I will say that I back this book one hundred percent!! I am a small business owner and I just opened my first location. This book has every possible bit of knowledge and wisdom from how to start up your small business to how to do big league stuff and managing clients. Just BUY IT! Then you can thank me later 😁

Good, but not what I thought it would be
I just finished reading this book and recommend it if you’re looking for a good overview of selling your work retail or wholesale. The author is a jewelry designer in NYC who works with precious metals and gemstones. She has her own line of jewelry which is shown throughout the book along with photos of her retail displays. I bought this book thinking it was about designing your own jewelry line, but that isn’t what it is. Design isn’t covered, as in harmony, contrast, unity, line, shape, value, color, etc. What a collection should include is covered very briefly. I think she’s tried to cover too much in one book. Subjects range from from getting an education in jewelry design, producing jewelry and hiring out work, to having a booth at wholesale trade shows. It’s all well-written and concise, but because it covers so much, everything is very brief. If you want more in-depth information, you’ll need to look elsewhere. For example, wax carving techniques are covered in two pages of text with no photos. One of the most valuable parts is the last section in which wholesale buyers and a few jewelry designers answer questions. Here’s a brief summary of the contents: 1. Business essentials: forming a business, taxes, licenses, business plans, etc. 2. Learning about jewelry design: where to go to get educated 3. Design for production: types of design (OOAK, commission, limited edition, production), designing a collection, foundations of a marketable collection, pricing 4. Producing your collection: stock and inventory, studio space, tools and equipment, machines, basic techniques, surface patterns, stone setting, where to purchase gemstones, wax carving, lost-wax casting, in-house production, out-of-house production, production line tips 5. Marketing your jewelry line: websites, email, social media, cross promotion, press 6. How and where to sell your jewelry line: retail, craft fairs, retail online, wholesale and wholesale trade shows, sales reps and showrooms 7. Insider guidance from industry professionals

Brilliant information for people who are serious about selling their jewelry
Concise writing that demystifies the handmade jewelry manufacturing/selling climate. Best book I've read on the subject for over a decade.

Decent Info - Horrible Presentation
Um, Miss Author, why did I receive an upside book? Basically, to start reading the book, I had to turn it upside down. Maybe I just got a bad copy. The information within the book is pretty decent. A few typos that most people wouldn’t notice, unless you’re a stickler like me. Basic info for someone looking to get into the jewelry industry. Think Sales & Marketing, Legal Structures - stuff like that.

Concise text, with a lot of information. The book touches on all subjects. It gives a lot of recommendations among other things a list of essential tools. She even gives her recipe to calculate the selling price of jewelry. I have a lot of books at home and I recommend buying it.

The book is full of great information, but the business side of things is based on the USA way of doing business... Being in Australia myself alt of the ideas can be taken on board but the information regarding setting up business in USA was not applicable... Saying that though the rest of the book is full of great ideas and very useful information.
