Just as fun the 2nd time
I read this when it first came out and remembered liking it. I recently saw that the series was possibly complete, so I decided to start over from the beginning. I remember the excitement that came with the Supreme Court’s decision, and this book captured that excellently. After reading this again, I found Oliver to be a little ridiculous as the closeted gay whisperer, but I still found the story and the relationship between Oliver and Adam to be a fun read.

Not sure what to say
Overall I enjoyed the start of this series. It set up the characters and the location well and has me wanting more. But this particular story was weird. It was over the top sappy perfect. The angst that was supposed to take away from that felt forced and was often confusing and too easily resolved. I felt like I missed a lot and the love was rushed and too INSTA for me. I gave this three stars bc I could see what the author was trying to do, and with a bit more maturity and practice this story could be great. As it stands, this is very 'new author' tell not show and a bit too perfect.

The Marine in Unit A is a look at issues met by this tight knit group and the help they give to others.
Kris Cook's Mockingbird Place series has a very topical in this moment story line. We meet a lot of the residents of Mockingbird Place and get their backstories while getting the most about Oliver, the story holder for MP, and Adam, the Marine, who is new to MP. You get to meet and come to like the people who are associated with MP. It is a look at issues met by this tight knit group and the help they give to others. I look forward to the stories to come about the other Units at Mockingbird Place. Thanks Kris Cook & Good Writing

"Blood isn't thicker than water, Love is..."
At some point in everyone's life, if they are lucky, they have someone whose kindness changes them, a place to live that's more than a dwelling, and a community whose acceptance transcends anything known before. It is within this sort of charmed world that the past is healed and deep love can well up to wash over very dry bones. This is what I found reading Kris Cook's newest offering, "The Marine in Unit A," the first in the Mockingbird Place series.I too often find the romance genre is formula and rote: A leads to B and then to C punctuated with bodies entwined and amplified with heavy breathing. Rarely do you find layers of personhood developed so well that you realize you know or have known this exact person. You feel their yearning, their hope, their loss, and their recreation. You laugh with them, you ache with them, and you can pull out the tissues and have yourself a good cry with them. This is also what I found. Oliver, Malcom, Adam, Candy, and S and M all became dear to me in a world of pages that ended far sooner than I would have liked. If you are looking for a relationship with a series of books I would urge you to introduce yourself to "The Marine in Unit A" and anxiously await each new book as they are born. As Malcom would say, "with any good relationship, patience and anticipation makes the eventual having all the more worth it."

I ordered this book by mistake, sorry
I pressed the 'buy' button by mistake and didn't discover this until it was too late. I decided to give the book a try.It wasn't my type of book. I don't care for anything to do with the military, past or present. And I don't like stories with a cast of thousands, all within the first few chapters. The story is about the young part-owner of an apartment block and the new guy who moves in. I skipped a lot of chapters, sorry. I didn't really know what star rating to give the book, seeing it was a mistake purchase.

Pretty good story
I went back and forth between a 3 and 4 star rating on this just because it was a bit repetitive in the beginning, the MCs didn't seem to have chemistry, and drove me a bit crazy with their back and forth. As I read on however, the chemistry became more pronounced and I actually got into the story. It's a cute story and I really like the premise of Mockingbird Place. I'll definitely continue this series!

Heart-warming
Warm, comfortable story that is very relevant to today's issues covering everything to same-sex marriage to the end of DADT, which happens to be near and dear to my heart.I spent five years in the Army prior to DADT and it was rough if you were gay. It's nice to see a story that is somewhat centered around the possibilities of what might happen if people, members and former members of the military in particular, are allowed to be who they are. A wounded veteran who just happens to be gay is so en pointe. I saw so many strong, masculine gay military men who were deeply buried in the closet which resulted in behavioral, alcohol and drug issues. So glad things are changing for the better, albeit slowly.Nice job, Kris. Looking forward to the next installments!

Impressive
Not quite sure about this book the main characters are amazing and totally believable, I just wish that there had been more about the backgrounds of these men, and what drives them, especially the relationship between the young men who lived as a prostitute, and the relationship he had with the man who saved his life.

Mehh take it or leave it..
I'm giving this 3 stars.. the story line is okay but then there's situations in this that are not believable. Oliver is okay but Adam drove me mad with the hot and cold with Oliver the way it was written. How many chances do you give a bloke?? Poor Oliver.Oliver had lost his father figure in Malcolm knowing him for the past 6 years. Mockingbird Place won't be the same with out him.The newest resident, Adam moves in and disrupts there memorial service to Malcolm making Oliver's blood boil..Wft Oliver tried to pick someone up when he's grieving.Adam 22yrs was a marine walking with a limp and was straight or closeted..now he was a student about to start study's.

Good...
It was a nice, short story to read. This is set in Mockingbird Place, where everyone seems to get along with everyone without any problems at all (a bit too utopic, I think). This story is about a new tenant who is uncomfortable with the injury he got while in the marines, & who also doesn't seem to want to admit he's gay, even though pretty much everyone knows he's gay (& other people can also tell that he has an injury). His family even knows he's gay. It was nice to read, even though it was a bit predictable (it's easy to see that all the different components of the story will end happily ever after, whether it's the incident at the university or the friendship between the tenants).
