I don't have a cat , nor am I a vet or want to give permission ...but speaking on the make up its safe for me to use. The compartment to the oil is tightly secure with the plugin part of the unit. If your cat doesn't have super strength to detach it everything should be fine. Neither part gets "hot" to touch.
