I feel like it works somewhat but probably gets a false reading here and there. Fun to use on my paddle board!

Was hesitant based on cheap price. Bought it to measure depth on a Canadian fishing trip with a rented boat. First day I dropped it over the side while drifting/trolling. Worked great. Next day I placed it in the bilge and was shocked to see it is truly a through hull transducer. For the price?! You do need a little water in the bilge. Sometimes can’t measure at full throttle but sure can when approaching a fishing spot at moderate speed. It will “mark” fish, but as with all cheap fish locators I take that with a grain of salt. BUT, if there are no marks it’s probably telling you something. Best product for the money I’ve ever purchased.

I will be updating my review with a video of my kid opening it as he got it for his bday and then i will show you how it functions so you can see for yourself. Thanfully hes 12 (today) and is very forgiving. However he is a very avid fisherman and noodled his first 44lb catfish last summer. we live on the river so hes constantly fishing so we had high hopes for the qualiy being much better than it unfortuately was. He has always wanted a fish finder, so since he got a kyack for his bday we figured we'd go ahead and get him one. This one had decent reviews so we went with it. Regretfully so.. its okay , but there is defintly room for improvment. When i decide to invest in another one i will post them side by side and you can decide for yourself. It feels cheap and very generic. looks like a cheap toy/glorified depth finder etchba sketch. . I was so disappointed because my son was so excited and the only thing he asked for and it kinda just felt like a dud. we figured it would at least be better than, what feels like a toy with basic fishing popping up on a grey lcd screen with no real indication of direction. The concept is nice but definatly room for improvement. This was the main present my son wanted and his most disappointing one. Hopefully well find another one and put them both side by side so you can see for yourself benifits of different ones to hopefully help others find what works best for their needs.

Ok for the money. Gives some sense on the depth. I have no faith in the fish readings. I was blue to see below it and saw no fish, but there were a bunch of fish on the screen.

Figured I would share my preliminary results of using the portable fish finder in saltwater conditions. The unit itself feels like a professional hand held device and has a solid feel. The wire connection that connects the sonar and the monitor has a quick disconnect, care needs to be taken here so that it does not disconnect during usage. However, I have not had that issue, even in rough jersey shore seas. The sonar device can be mounted on the boat hull, a fishing pole, or you can just use the included float. If you are using the float make sure that the wire does not sink to the bottom, this could snag it. In terms of corrosion resistance, the sonar is holding up pretty well so far, as well as the wire. In-water testing was also successful, unit picks up under water structures, and accurate depth. Schools of fish show up very well and it was really nice to see a functioning unit that was not $2500. The LCD display is easy to read and features a back light that can be turned off to save battery life. I would highly recommend this unit for people that are looking for a fish finder that doesn't break the bank.
