Faust: A Tragedy, Part One Paperback – November 25, 1992

This Mueller translation is the best Faust I've read. This guy knows how to preserve the meaning of the text so the multiple meanings come through. Worth seeking out over some of the more common Kaufman or Taylor versions

the translation is done in a way to preserve the poetic nature of the text while avoiding the usual pitfalls of obscuring the meaning with stilted english.I really appreciate the Foust's struggle between head and heart, belief and unbelief, striving and erring.

Liked this very much truly a great book of imaginationMajor themes are relevant today.Major characters include God the Devil as they 'struggle' over the immortal soul of Faust.

This is an excellent translation of an amazing book.Not only does Greenberg's translation rhyme (as opposed to the free-verse versions of lesser translators), but it's a great deal more intelligible to modern American readers than the other translations I've read. Nothing has been dumbed down, this book radiates the same brilliance and wit as the German original.I highly recommend it.

More 4.5*Parts 1 and 2 in one book. Part 1 was very entertaining, nice banter between Faust and Mephistopheles, and Faust changes after meeting Gretchen. Part 2, a jolted start as it didn’t continue from the end of part 1 but the translation of poetry was just as wonderful read, and the twist with its ending came as a surprise to me.

I really like this translation which is of course one of many. It has some very amusing takes on some of the older versions of the text.I am studying this as part of an OU course and find it fascinating and very relevant.

It was a little bit shorter than I hoped. I was wanting a long epic novel. This was a short story version. Not sure if its just g. Version or if there is more versions,, this was a kids book.
