Great product & customer service!
I purchased this ant farm for my 2 year old toddler who is fascinated by ants, and found myself enjoying it as much as he did. There are several different sellers of ant farms and I chose this particular one based on the many positive reviews, and am very happy with my choice. I had a sand-based ant farm when I was a kid and intended to get one of those but changed my mind after reading peoples' complaints with the tunnels constantly collapsing, which can't happen with the modern "gel" based versions. Even when my son picked up and tipped (and, yes, sometimes shook...until I instructed him otherwise) the farm, it maintains its integrity perfectly. Plus, no need to EVER add food or water, it is entirely maintenance free! My son LOVED it, as did I, and the ants lasted much longer than I anticipated (almost 6 months). The ants started tunneling within a couple days of being added to the farm, and it was very cool to watch as the tunnels progressed daily, eventually becoming a complex web with several "rooms" where the tunnels connected below the surface, where often several ants would hang out. The product looks great on the shelf both with and without the LED's on. The LEDs themselves are very bright, and the ants seemed more active with them turned on. I had a problem with the LED base a week or so after my purchase (couldn't get them to stay on because of what felt like a loose connection with the adaptor). This normally would have caused me to significantly lower my review rating, but I emailed the Company (contact info clearly provided in instructions) and they responded quickly and sent me a whole new ant farm by expedited mail, even though all I needed was the LED base. The new LED's work great, and now I have a second farm to use at a future date. I'm glad I chose to purchase from this customer-oriented family business!

Wish I could give 10 stars
The ant habitat is awesome! The quality is excellent and we couldn't be happier with it. But it's the customer service at Evviva Sciences that is beyond 5 stars in my book. I ordered the habitat for my grandsons birthday and after we got it ordered the live ants from a recommended source (not from evviva sciences as they don't sell or provide the ants) I live in California where the temperatures are mild so I didn't order the warmer for the ants. When they arrived the majority were dead. I tried contacting the company that I bought the ants from just to see what my options were. We were very disappointed. Meanwhile I received an email from Evviva Sciences asking if we were 100% satisfied with the habitat and our experience with them. They said to reply to email if we had ANY PROBLEMS OR QUESTIONS. They said they wanted us to have 100% satisfaction. I replied to the email telling them about the dead ants just to see if they could advise us what to do. Long story short they are sending us a new habitat (in case the ants were sick) AND new ants (whenever we want them, with a warmer) all free of charge!! EVEN THOUGH they were not at fault for any of it!! I could not be more grateful!! You just don't find customer service like this any more. If you are looking for an ant habitat this is the place to get one!!! They are so much fun and fascinating!! Can't wait till the weather warms up so we can get ours up and running. Thank you Evviva Sciences!!

Very Fun & Mesmerizing!
Very cool. Whole family is enjoying it, and a couple of neighbors too. We loaded it with about 40 harvester ants that we harvested a couple of blocks from our home. We used popsicle sticks and a large Tupperware container to collect. Then inserted a small funnel in the top and used the popsicle sticks again to get them in about 2 at a time by lightly scraping them in without getting dirt mixed in. They started digging almost immediately. Per instructions, we helped with a couple starter holes 1/4" deep or so. No dead ants and they are all very active and fun to watch work. Enjoy!!

Ant issues
The kit is very exciting, however the harvester ants we bought from a seller we have had previous successes with, either are having trouble digging or do not know what to make of the gel. They are not digging or doing much of expected, normal behavior. They walk along the top of the gel and then they all pile into an ant ball at night. Not sure if we need a different type of ant or if we are not doing something correctly…

Great Customer Service, even better product
I Bought the Antworks model years ago on a daily deal at a great price but it was much more expensive recently when my son was interested in having one. I am glad I went with the more affordable Evviva model. Based on the extraordinary reviews I felt very confident in my purchase. Unfortunately, I received a damaged habitat but Evviva quickly contacted me and sent a replacement. Evviva has far exceeded my expectations of any retailer, I got the exchange within 3 days and they followed up to be sure my new habitat was perfect. Now for the actual review: After owning both the Evviva Habitat and the Fascinations AntWorks I can say with certainty that the Evviva is the better buy with better features. 1. The power supply is adaptable for both A/C and USB 2. The glow from the LEDs are far superior, providing even lighting throughout. The AntWorks has very focused sharp points of light that illuminate brightly in spots and not so much in most areas. The Evviva is a perfect night light for kid's room and great display of ant behavior. 3. The port on the lid makes adding the ants that arrive in a vial very easy. With the AntWorks you have to remove the lid and hope you get all the ants in before they scurry out all over the table. Trust me, I had this happen and the family freaked out! 4. The lid on the Evviva doesn't have a gasket like the AntWorks model. This is important, the ants begin to eat the gasket instead of tunneling and come very close to escaping. In fact, the AntWorks now includes a strip of clear tape to secure the lid and my guess-the ants. 5. I am not sure if the gels are the same or the ants are different but the ants only tunnel on the perimeter of the AntWorks, leaving a large void in the center of the display. 6. Customer service is superior and will guarantee your satisfaction making this a fool-proof purchase. Don't waste your money on the others, this is one that is built to impress!

He got in Monday and was checking like every hour to see if his ant's were tunneling
I purchased this for my sons 8th birthday and he LOVES it. He got in Monday and was checking like every hour to see if his ant's were tunneling. When he woke up this morning (Wednesday) they had made quite a large tunnel overnight! He was so impressed he did even want to go to school so he could watch his ants. We are both super pleased with your product looks and it's quality.I also like the digital book that you get with the purchase. It has a lot of neat fact and cool pictures. My son loves being on the computer so this style of book works well for him, makes it seem less like his homework for him to read it, The only problem we have is my son can't get the ant's to stay still long enough for him to name each of them! Also when you are putting the ants in the habitat don't do like I did and just open the vial they come in. Ants are fast and they scatter! I never read the directions they said to put the ants in the fridge for 10 mins to slow them down a bit. Oops!

A sad concentration camp
The set is beautiful and well lit. Pretty cool that the blue gel contains all the food and water the ants need. We set it up and it was fantastic. Two weeks later I suspected something that would be confirmed by the end of week three: we have our own little Auschwitz and I'm concerned. The ants started digging by day two. They dug this incredible tunnel and we watched as they moved debris out of the tunnel, backwards alone and then forward in teams. Then another tunnel. And another. Eventually it became clear they were searching for the way out. Everytime I cracked open the air hole, they scurried for it. One died, then another. They buried the dead with debris, probably just coincidental as they were digging but it looks like Hans Solo when frozen... Stuck in the blue gel. These guys want out and they aren't happy, there's no way. Now, day in and day out they look resigned to die like their comrades. They've stopped digging tunnels. They don't even visit the tunnels, they just sit in a pile and come to life at the slightest lift of the lid. RIP, ants. Your end is coming...

Great for my 9 year old son - a wonderful opportunity to see science "live"!
My 9 year old son loves watching the Harvester Ants - the lighted habitat makes it very easy to see all of the tunneling activity. The kit was very simple to assemble and Evviva was very responsive when I submitted my request for ants and the accompanying eBook. I find myself studying the ants and I have often found my teenage daughter gazing at the ants. Very enjoyable gift and I highly recommend it for children that enjoy sciences. Update: it has been a week and a half and the ants have been very busy! Update: it is now late August and the ants are still alive! I have been adding a little bit of water to the gel, it looked a little dry, but very happy since it is still going with the same batch of ants (I still have 12 original ants)
