Great Quality for a Great Price
The quality of this machine is very good. Just the head assembly (motor and spindle) weighs about 150 pounds. The shaft is thick and durable. The adjustments are smooth. The drill is very powerful and goes through metal easily. It is quiet and it looks good too, although I don't know if orange is my favorite color for it. It sits next to a bench top Enco drill press and really puts it to shame. The drill has little runout and chatter compared to the Enco. The instructions are clear, and from other bad reviews, I would say they did not follow the instructions. The belt is not easy to change as it remains under a lot of tension, but is doable.Overall, this is a great buy, especially because of the free shipping.

So glad I took a chance
The quality is way better than Harbor Freight. I have owns an HF drill press before and was less than impressed. However not the case with this one! It is really well built and feels really good. There isn't any noticeable runout in the spindle and was packaged very well. It looks like the box was punctured by a forklift at some point, but the drill press was fine with no damage.Saw one other review were someone had issues getting the table on. You have to hold the rack gear inside the table where it belongs and slide the two pieces onto the column at the same time. Pretty easy and it took me 15 mins to get it all put together.Definitely recommend this one!

Be Careful...
This press generally does what it is supposed to do, BUT the drill depth gauge setup is HORRIBLE. You buy this thing thinking you are getting some high speed depth gauge deal, and its aweful. Not only is it guesswork on setting the depth of the hole, but then the thing will slip on you, and whoops, you just drilled through your stock. This happened to me on one of the first times I used the press, and so since then I have been "more careful" - but it still happens, maybe the slippage is getting easier with wear.Additionally, the motor started making unwanted noises after 4-5 months work (once a week use maybe). We'll see how long this thing lasts. Really disapointed, as WEN had become one of my "GOTO" places to find cheap, quality tools. I wish the spindle would transfer onto my 25 year old craftsman... I would keep using that one for another 25.

17" Wen Floor Drill Press
Today was the day. A friend came over and helped assemble the drill press. We had it put together in about 30 minutes. Just took some muscle standing it upright. No bells and whistles to boast about, just a machine that drills holes. Get a drill press vise, and a decent set of drill bits. All will be worth the money when you need this tool to make a repair & do some work.

Big mistake
I was pretty excited about this drill press based on the initial reviews I read on here. I wish I would've gotten to 1 star review prior to ordering. Before I even plugged this thing in I wanted to check the functionality of the table and tensioner to adjust the speed. Once assembled the table height adjuster worked but was a little jumpy, not smooth at all. When I went to change the speed settings, the motor wouldn't budge. I fussed with it for about an hour until I finally called. Got on operator online pretty quick. He told me there is a bolt located under the connecting plate (motor to main body) that had a jamb nut on it. Just tighten all the way and the motor will release. It seemed like such a specific and quick answered I asked why it wasnt noted in the manual. Silence. I asked if he was still there he said "yes I'm here". I replied, "so you're just going ignore my question?". He replied he is only there to help which was a fair reply. Anyway, he said I could return it, which I was aware of. I stated that hardly makes up for a half day I lost. Again, he had nothing to do with that and if I could apologize to him for being short and grumpy I would. ANYWAY, I messed with it for about another hour and got the motor to move but it only moved out and not in far enough to even take the belts off. By this time my buddy was helping out (he is the CNC manager here) and he noticed the pullies were made of cast and not even machined. I forgot to mention earlier, when installing the table, I noticed some orange scratches at the top pole and I knew from that and its packaging, this machine had been returned at least once.Maybe it was a one off, bad machine. Its good to hear not everyone had these issues. But I personally will never buy this brand again.

Meets expectations
A robust drill. The base is solid and the adjustable table is rigid when locked in.The drill speed is constant when drilling steel with normal pressure exerted. The laser cross hairs are right on for any type of set up.
