Good flow for my Betta
Received this little filter for my 7.5 gal after trying the Penn Plax submersible. I have to say I am a fan of the Hygger! While the penn plax helped keep the tank clean, it just wouldn’t stay put where I attached it and the flow seemed like too much for my Betta. With the Hygger, I was able to use the arm to create a nice mushroom waterfall that my Betta seems to love. With the ability for this to hang onto the side of my rimless tank, I don’t have to worry about any suction cups or having it come off the wall and blowing my poor betta all over the tank. The filter is so very quiet and I can’t WAIT to try the water change feature next week. I also appreciate the area where the filters go. I will likely be adding my own filter media once I see how well the current filters hold up. For my fully planted 7.5 gal rimless tank, this seems to be the best filter choice yet. Will update once water changes have been completed. Thanks for the great product, Hygger!

Not powerful enough
This filter is nice and slim but it doesn’t have enough power for the listed tank size. Also, it clogged easily, which caused the pump to fail on me when I didn’t catch a clog soon enough. Not good for planted tanks or tanks with messy fish. Probably would be a good shrimp or nano filter, though.

Loud noise after two days
Installing was simple in following instructions. Worked great for two days, But after 2 days started to make a funny loud gurgling noise (tank water levels are correct according to filter instruction advice), and the base of it began to float up away from the side of the tank. I turned it off and on again, but loud noise started up after a few minutes. Turned it off again, unplugged and taken out. Nothing looks out of sorts when taking filter out etc. pretty disappointed.

It does filter well, with modifications.
I got this filter for my 6 gallon frameless cube with glass lid. I wanted an internal filter that had lots of room for media, and I liked the water change feature since I knew I would be doing frequent water changes when the tank was newly set up.The first thing I did was toss out the little carbon cartridge and replace it with coarse sponge cut to shape. The cartridge was flat but the side of the filter is curved. It wasted a lot of space and didn’t sit right up against the intake holes, and I was concerned that baby snails, shrimp, or fish would go in.There was plenty of space left in the filter after the fine sponge so I added a bag of carbon over there. The first time I tried to use the water change feature the tube stuck, the black spout came off, and a jet of water went up my wall. That was not fun. I strongly recommend unplugging the filter before you try this, just in case. I ended up just using a cup and scooping the water instead. Also, the filter hangs low enough to go under your glass or plexi lid, but there may be a slight space between the filter and the wall of the tank. Make sure no critters are back there before you do filter maintenance, I may have crushed a snail. It would be nice if there were suction cups or something to secure the bottom so it doesn’t move so easily when you’re removing the filter lid. Some customers complained about noises in the pump or the filter tilting up on one side- I found that when you KEEP THE WATER LEVEL ABOVE THE TOPMOST INTAKE HOLES you will not have this problem. Both of those issues are caused by air being sucked in. The filter is extremely quiet. When I raised the water level to where it’s supposed to be, my betta kept trying to swim in the outflow hole. At first I used a little piece of coarse sponge there, but found that it was inhibiting the flow too much. It would be better if that hole was higher so it could be above the water line. Currently I’m using the fountain head feature instead, but being taller it makes my lid sit crooked. With a few tweaks this filter is pretty good, I like the size, quiet operation, and filtering power. It could use a redesign for some of the challenges but overall it was worth the price.EDIT as of March 13th 2022:I ended up drilling WAY more holes in the intake side. I started with a tiny drill bit and then went over it again with a bit that matched the size of the existing holes. (Filed off any burs after) All the way from top to bottom. The filter functions SO much better, and since then I have had no issues with noise or bobbing up, even when I allowed the water level to go lower than the topmost holes.
