High quality lump charcoal
Really find this to be high quality with large pieces that lights easy and burns well. Good value for the money as well

Great flavor and temp, very inconsistent chunks
This lump charcoal provides good hardwood smoke flavor and burns hot and lasts. The only problem is there are a lot of very large chunks mixed in with very small chunks that fall through the grate and even the bottom of the charcoal chimney during lighting. I'm an experienced cook and I've used lots of different lump charcoal. This would be fine for a really large smoker where bigger chunks wouldn't be an issue. But for someone with a Kamado smoker or a smaller offset smoker, it isn't so great. It'll work just fine, but the inconsistencies in the chunk sizes make temp control somewhat difficult unless it's opened wide for higher heat. Compared to the ol' standby, Cowboy Lump Charcoal offers greater consistency in chunk size and has a milder smoke flavor, but doesn't burn quite as hot. So it really depends on your cooking goals. I love to cook, and I made some great food using this Fire & Flavor brand of lump charcoal and I would get it again if I couldn't find some with more consistent chunks. It's also my first time trying this brand, so it could have even just been a one-off, and it's usually better. But I got the two pack, and both were the same.

very nice charcoal chunks
This is a nice large bag of charcoal with variable size pieces necessary for building a stack over the starter thing is my Big Green Egg. The coals lit quickly. Price was good.

Just ok
I live in the California wine country and we cook over red Oak on a Santa Maria barbecue. Some days it’s just too much to light up an entire 5 foot long barbecue for just a few steaks or chicken so I use lump charcoal. The brand I use Wasn’t available so I purchased this instead. This one was more expensive. The pieces were smaller and I didn’t detect any oak even though I added Oak pieces to the charcoal. I It’s better than regular charcoal, which I don’t use, but it doesn’t offer flavors and it doesn’t last long because the chunks are too small. I would purchase it again if I hadn’t found another brand that was far superior

Lump is rhe only way to go
I started buying this lump because it has NO chemical taste like the ones with a starter. These do require a starter but they are reasonable now in price. If you’re cooking with these, extinguish the fire immediately after cooking. If you do it will preserve the lump for another burn. Most people cook for my two hours max. If you do this it saves money and time. Just add a it more and go. Highly recomend!

Used in Green Egg
I like the value for use in my Big Green Egg. They seem to last and can produce high heat. Bags are sized for easy handling.
