Top tier quality made in Japan
I use the donabe to cook rice the old-fashioned way. I also use it to make Japanese dishes like miso soup, nikujaga, sukiyaki, yosenabe, and other hot pot recipes. It's a beautifully crafted clay pot made in Yokkaichi Japan and is top-tier quality. I love the double lids and how well it can retain heat. It's easy to cook with and clean.

Best rice cooker I’ve ever owned
In just a few days of owning it, I’m already making rice that is perfectly customized to my tastes, better than I’ve ever gotten out of any electric rice cooker in 30 years. A huge benefit is that it can make a single serving of rice (I’ve been making 1/2 cup dry) far better than any electric rice cooker I’ve ever tried—just add a bit more water than usual for that small an amount. It’s only slightly more effort to use than an electric rice cooker, and it’s easy to clean too. Initially I was on the fence about buying it, but I’m glad I did. Using it sparks joy!Update: Ever heard of “clay pot rice”? You apply heat long enough to crisp/brown the rice on the bottom, and you can simultaneously steam ingredients like marinated meat and vegetables on top. The crispy rice adds a fantastic flavor and textural variety. It’s an excellent and customizable one-pot dish that’s apparently very popular in China and Japan, and this donabe does a great job making it. It’s something you can’t make in an electric rice cooker, and it’s enough of a reason to buy a donabe on its own!

Perfect rice-every time!
Old electronic rice cooker burned the rice, every single time. No matter how we adjusted portions, or prep. Bought this rice cooker with the idea that anything was better than what we had. Followed the setup directions, and instructions for use to the letter, and I am ecstatic with this cooker! We have used the cooker for brown rice, and for jasmin rice. Both times the rice came out perfectly done. Cleaning is a cinch. After cleaning with a wash rag and mild detergent, and hand drying, we leave it to sit over night before storing it in the cupboard. I am very happy we purchased this cooker, and I am looking forward to many years of use.

Simple Traditional Rice Cooker
I use it to make regular Japanese white rice. I cook multiple dishes at one time, and it it a bit hard for me to keep my eyes on it to turn down the burner. and off.You need to let washed rice sit for >20 min. in water (there are line indication inside of the Donabe for water amount) and place it on the burner with a medium heat until the steam comes out from the hole of the Donabe. Turn down the heat to the lowest and cook another 6 min for 2 RICE cup and 8 min for 3 RICE cup. Then, remove the Donabe from the burner and let it sit for 20 min.I used Zojirushi rice cooker with many features for years. However, the coating of the inner bowl wore off. I could not find a replacement for it as it is no longer manufactured. I never used the many other features of Zojirushi rice cooker besides making regular Japanese rice. The coating of the inner bowl is my health concern. I tried the ceramic coating rice cooker but it didn't cook well.Overall, I am happy with the Donabe I got. It gets a little scorched at the bottom of rice when I over-cook it but I like Okoge (おこげ).

First time to use it, successful!
The media could not be loaded. This is my first time to use it, results completely satisfied. Follow the instructions to seasoned it at the first time then really to use.Washed & rinsed the rice 3 times and soaked for 30 mins, I put 190cc water per cup of rice to the pot, following the instructions to cook.I don't know how long it can last, so far I don't see any cracks after used yet. Easy to use and clean. My electric rice cooker can be retired now.....
