This bale, which was smaller than I expected when it arrived, expanded beautifully to fill an area 12" x 13" x 9". I put it in a bin, filled with water to the level of the bale, and left it to expand. I needed to add even more water to get it totally hydrated. It is not totally fluffed in the bin, so it will likely be even more moss than shown in the photos. I will not use all of it at once, but I didn't want to tear apart the bale which would result in smaller pieces of moss. My plan is to drain what I don't use, and store it in a plastic bag with some air holes so it doesn't get moldy. I've done this before and it worked well and made it easier to use smaller portions in the future. The quality of the moss is excellent. Very few short pieces fell out when I was mounting my orchid to a board. Very happy with this!
