Tefal Ultracompact 3-in-1 GC308840 Versatile, Health Grill, Black, 2000 W, 4-6 Portions

Only having a single oven, I bought this to be able to cook chips in the oven and grill sausages at the same time. The grill can be used in a closed position, so that you can grill both sides of the meat at the same time, or in the open, barbecue position so that you can cook more items at the same time. The grill plates are ridged which is good for cooking sausages because they don't roll around. If you are cooking a flat piece of meat, the ridges sear stripes on the meat. The plates are non-stick and easy to take out and put in the dishwasher to clean. The two halves of the unit allow it to be positioned in two different heights so that you can cook thin things or thick things. There are three settings, one for vegetables, one for breads, and one for meat. I have only used the meat setting so far on three occasions. The plates heat up quite quickly and the thermostat keeps the heat setting. There is a drawer to collect the fat/juices but very little came off the meat I was cooking.

Does the job I wanted without having to use full size oven

Happy with this grill. Have used it for grilling steaks, but that was problematic in terms of not knowing how long it was supposed to be on and being able to know how long I left it on for, so the thing missing is a timer on the machine.The variable temperature knob is useful; it's really just a big toaster with grill plates on it.Toasted sandwiches are easy, and it doesn't struggle with thick sandwiches.It has a metal wire that acts as a foot when you want to stand it up vertically.Easy to unclip the plates to clean, but the underside does scratch easily and the teflon gets removed, it doesn't affect the top, but you will need to handle the plate with care.The drip fat works at the front, but there is a design flaw that when you open the grill, the fat from the 'top plate' drips down the back of the machine. So the bottom plate is accounted for with the front facing drip catcher, the top plate isn't accounted for the back facing drips.So it's a 4 from me. If they fixed the top plate dripping issue and added a timer, I would give it a 5.

The grill is versatile & easy to clean - no problems there.However, temperature control is problematic. The grill will heat up and the status light will be on but once it hits temp it will effectively turn off then kick back in sometime later once the temperature drops. This is by design, its mentioned in the manual. It's weird - If you're cooking meat you can hear it sizzling and then the temperature control kicks in and it will stop sizzling. When the temperature control kicks back in then it starts sizzling again. It's a bit frustrating because the temperature is not consistent therefore unpredictable results. YMMV.

Bought this when my George Forman gave up the ghost. Was larger than I thought and takes up a lot of space. Works well and easy to clean as the hot plates are detachable.
